This has been a sad year for hip ho so far (aside from Common), so I have been listening to a lot of old stuff, and some 2004 goodies.

Jeru The Damaja - The Sun Rises In The East
Murs - 3:16
No ID - Accept Your Own and Be Yourself (The Black Album)
De La Soul - The Grind Date
The Roots - The Tipping Point
Group Home - Livin' Proof

And John Legend is still a mainstay after 3 months. Good album.

Alot of Common fans here. I've always thought he was really overated and lacked good flow.
Perhaps I will give him another chance.

For those of you who are board of most hip/hop and want something a little different, Dizzee Rascal is a must listen.
He takes some getting used to, but after a while his stuff is infectious.
The album "Boy in da corner" won the Mercury music award in the UK about 2 or 3 years back and is awsome. Unfortunatly he still hasn't broke here, but he should be heard.

 Garbage?
Homers list is great.

What is fake about any of those artists?
They might not rap about what you want to hear, but that doesn't make it fake.
I would take good rap about the streets and gangs over your supposed MEANINGFUL yet talentless boring garbage anyday.

Not really, actually. I don't like the radio, if I can't listen to the exact music I want when I want it's not worth my time. Although the odd times I do listen to music on the radio, it normally is CJAY, yeah.

For those hip hoppers and rap fans, here's some good ones

Kanye West- Late Registration
A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes And Life
2Pac - Loyal To The Game
Ice Cube - Ice Cube's Greatest Hits
Nas - God's Son
Heavy D & The Boyz - Heavy Hitz
Naughty By Nature - Greatest Hits: Naughty's Nicest
The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready To Die
Goodie Mob - Soul Food
Big Daddy Kane - The Very Best Of Big Daddy Kane
Big L - The Big Picture

All of these are great albums, right now the song I listen the most to is Tupac-I'm Losin' It, great song.

Garbage?
Homers list is great.

What is fake about any of those artists?
They might not rap about what you want to hear, but that doesn't make it fake.
I would take good rap about the streets and gangs over your supposed MEANINGFUL yet talentless boring garbage anyday. [/b][/quote]
Garbage is great. Shirley Manson kicks ass

Because most of us on CP can really relate to gang and street life.

I'll take Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Common, etc. over Tupac everyday of the week.

well if your from forest lawn............
But, come on man you don't give rappers enough credit, it's not every word they're saying it's the underlying message, and are you just relating to a select few songs? have you heard "Keep your Head Up", "Wonder Why They Call You Bitch", "Dear Mama" etc. ?
