Default Bret Hart may return to the WWE

Amid speculation that Bret Hart is in talks to return to World Wrestling Entertainment
to host an upcoming edition of WWE RAW, it now appears Bret Hart's involvement with WWE will extend well beyond a 1-night appearance.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has signed a short-term talent contract with WWE that goes into effect on January 1, 2010 and runs until April 10th, approximately two weeks after WrestleMania 26.

I hope this is true!

I can't think of any other reason why you'd want to do that constant abuse to your body day in and day out.

Must be tough times.

There's already a thread in Other Sports, but it's probably more appropriate here.

One of the hallmarks of Bret Harts career both in Stampede and WWF was to bring "realism" into storylines which included family members. For example his "feud" with Owen or his bout with the British Bulldog with his sister Diana.

I say this because I truly believe that the whole "Screwjob in Montreal" at the 1997 Survivor Series was scripted.

Bret Hart and Vince McMahnon are both sons of wrestling promoters with lots in common including huge egos. Pulling off the screwjob jumpstarted the WWF's Attitude Era and Bret got a huge payday from WCW.

I hope this is true! He was one of my favourite actors. Not many WWF/E actors/wrestlers could perform at his level.

I hope its not to wrestle.

My nephew is addicted to WWE, aren't there bunch of hart kids in the business now? maybe he should manage them. If he does come back I might watch his segments, best there was, and the best there ever will be one.

It's definitely not to Wrestle. My guess the WWE may be looking to form a new "Hart Foundation", since Nattie Neidhardt and Harry Smith are both children of Harts. Additionally there are at least a couple of Hart's in their late teens who apparently are going to sign contracts with the WWE very shortly, including one of Bret's sons.

Hart is definitely not broke. From all indications, he was one of the more financially responsible wrestlers. Additionally his book was a Nationally bestseller 2 years ago. My guess is he would manage the "New" Hart Foundation. It was originally supposed to be formed a few years back, but Teddy Hart (arguably the best of the new generation Harts) is mentally unstable, and has a reputation of burning bridges whatever promotion he wrestles in.

I was actually wondering about that, although I doubt it.

I was a little concerned he might sue me for calling my new cover band BRETTT "The Hitband" HARTTT. I guess his management must not have responded because he is in the dungeon sharpening up the sharp-shooter.

We'll be playing lots of gigs in the new year, maybe he'll dig.

Hart foundation 4Life beeeeeyotch!!

The Montreal Screw job was definitely NOT scripted. For one thing, the next time Vince McMahon appeared on TV, he was sporting a black eye. Secondly, Owen Hart died, and Martha Hart (Owen's widow), with the urging of Bret, sued the WWE for millions, eventually settling out of court.

McMahon was also on "Off the Record" in July that year, basiclly trashing Bret. His lawyers advised him not to respond because of the lawsuit. They finally patched things up a few years ago, but the Screwjob was as real as it gets. It's happened before, and it will probably happen again.

In retrospect, the screwjob was pretty predictable.

Bret's book made a fairly good chunk of money, he got a very generous payout from a lawsuit against Lloyds of London on his insurance policy AND he wasn't dumb with his WWE/WCW money. He's fine financially, as far as can be gathered by a layman.
