Default Dirty Dozen: Biggest Auto Busts in the Last Decade

As tends to happen at the end of a year/decade, there are a lot of lists out there. Well, here's another one, a selection of the 12 biggest busts in the automotive industry of the last decade, put out by one of my favorite car blogs, Autoblog.

Some obvious ones in here, but also a couple of surprises.

http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/dirt...last-decade/#1

Also a fairly ridiculous selection of the most collectible car of 2009

Not surprised the Tundra made it. A horrible a gas guzzler and about as ugly a truck as they come.

Suprised the Element didn't make the list, for how hard they pimped it I'd say it was the second biggest flop after the aztec.

I was surprised to see the Tundra on there because I think it's a kick-ass truck but I didn't know sales were so crappy for it. lol the Aztek is going to make every worst-cars-ever list until the end of time, I'm sure. What a POS.

If this was a dirty-13 list, I wonder if they would have included the Malibu Maxx:

The Tundra to me was a surprise, but it shows how much I know about trucks. I would've thought people would eat up the idea of a big-ass truck that would have a reliable badge like Toyota behind it. Then again, it wasn't that reliable.

It's not that good looking, but then again, I'm not that crazy about how any of the big trucks look. My favorite is still Marty McFly's Toyota pickup...

?

I just compared it at this site: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ to the F-150, Sierra and Ram (all 2009 4WD and base V-8s) and they all returned a 15 MPG combined city/hwy fuel economy, with the exception of the Sierra at 16 MPG.

Why do you single the Tundra out as being a guzzler? They're all terrible, but it isn't worse.

And the ugliest truck, hands down, is the Avalanche. It's the truck version of an Aztek:

Tundra's a POS.

Fleets buy trucks. These trucks are beaten to hell.

Those import sycophants at The Truth About Cars couldn't write a bad review about the Tundra if they were driving a vehicle made of pure poo, as long as it had the Toyota logo.

Most people expect Toyota to have better mileage than their peers.

Damn, good one, how did that one not make the list. I guess the list was about busts in general, not necessarily design busts. Seems like there are/were a lot of Avalanches out there on the road, despite their ugliness.

If Van Helsing can't say the Tundra in those commercials nothing can save it.

I'm surprised the Subaru Baja did not make it onto the list. That seriously is one of the ugliest cars ever made. Its like a 2000 version of an ugly El Camino

Haha yeah I forgot about the Baja. Funny thing is it would be really practical in a lot of ways and more fun to drive than a truck. I only see like one a year in Calgary.

The 2009 Tundra is an amazing truck. Not as good as the new ford but I wouldnt say its terrible.

Toyota marketing just doesnt resonate with those that buy trucks. It does with those to buy Prius and Camrys.

I think the Avalanche wasn't on the list because of the improvements they recently made to its looks. The new ones don't have all that plastic junk stapled to the side of it, and look much better. The older Avalanche were just.......nasty.

Also because the list wasn't about ugly vehicles, it was about busts. As the Avalanche sells a lot, it isn't a bust.

Really? I'm actually a fan of the element... well, beyond 2007 anyway. I can see how the styling could be questionable to some (I actually hate the interior) but its an incredibly functional vehicle and I see a lot of them on the road so I assume they are selling ok.

I'm surprised by the Tundra as well... However, my impression is that it's really started becoming a good truck in recent years. Although I have never owned a truck in my life so my opinion is formed only by what I hear.

I was also surprised by the Insight. Again, I don't own a hybrid but I thought there was a good market for this type of vehicle.

They've actually been a pretty big bust in terms of sales expectations.

But not quiet enough to kill it.

You know I'm not really surprised they've been a bust in terms of sales because they are overpriced. I looked at one once and almost fell out of my chair when the guy gave me the price with a few options. This was a couple of years ago but it was close to $30K which is ######ed. I bought a Sienna for about the same price and it's 10x the vehicle.
