Default Anybody else have problems wearing contact lenses?

I'm trying out contact lenses. I'm on my second pair. They are Acuvue disposables. Wear them for a month and throw them out. I don't know whether it is just me being a wuss but I haven't been wearing them much. I find them a little uncomfortable. Like every now and then if I have them in and am watching a hockey game on TV if I look at the score on the screen it almost seems like double vision until I blink and then it is fine. Just wondering what any other people who wear or have tried wearing contacts think.

When i first got contacts, I went through about 5 or 6 different brands and types before i found the right ones. On one pair, I experienced the double vision, most noticeably when i drove. I'd look down and my speedometer was all messed up, but when i looked up, it was fine. I ended up getting re-tested and they had the wrong prescription in one of my eyes. Once that changed, it was great.

Try making sure the contacts are not inside out, I know that's a dumb question, but maybe the answer.

I wear monthly contacts too. For the first day or two of the new lenses, it takes a while for me to get used to them again. By the end of the month, they're like silk in my eyes and really comfy.

I've found if you try and take them straight out of the lens kits each morning and put them straight in the eyes, it's really irritating. I'll always wash them in my clean palms with solution, rinse with more solution and then plop them in.

The worst part is still going to bed, working on the laptop and realizing you forgot to take them out. Maybe I'm just lazy. Or, even worse, is when you fall asleep with them in and your eyes feel like a sand-trap when you wake up.

Not sure how much of that is relevant to you.

I know we have a optometrist on this forum... he could probably give pretty good insight.

But to my personal experience, I found toric lenses really did the trick for me. It helps so much more. It has something to do with weights on the bottom of the lenses so they don't move around and thus stabilizes your vision. However, they are a bit more expensive.

I wear dailies right now as I don't wear contacts often, but I find them a little more uncomfortable than my biweekly or monthly ones for some odd reason.

Sounds like a bad fit, you need to make sure you have the ideal ones for you. Try out a few more types.

Do you have astigmatism, and do you know what brand/type your lenses are?

Your situation is very similar to the one I had, and I'll share the story when I wake up tomorrow.

Yeah, I know my mom can't wear contacts because she's got astigmatism...even the contacts designed for it don't work very well for her.

Personally, I've never had any problem with mine. I have no problem taking them in, or out...once in a while I can feel them really bothering me, then I know it's time to change them. I wear 2-week Acuvue's...but sometimes they'll last me longer than that, sometimes shorter...depends on how often I wear them.

Edit---I also hate the feeling of sleeping with my contacts in. It only ever happens if I crash at a friend's place after boozing all night, but goddamn does it ever bother me. I have to poke myself in the eye to get them to water a bit so I can see for the drive home. As soon as I get back, they go right into solution and I wear glasses for as long as I can that day.

I have really bad astigmatism in one eye, and it causes a lot of contacts problems. I used to wear gas permeables without too much issue. But my optometrist recently tried to convince me to switch to soft lenses. My vision is worse (I'm uncomfortable driving with them in, I really can't read anything) and they aren't that much more comfortable than the gas permeables. So I wear my glasses 95% of the time.

I did wear the contacts when I was vacationing in Hawaii for 2 weeks and everything was noticably better (vision and comfort). I think part of the problem for me is that it's just soooooo dry here.

Two words: Peroxide Solution.

My eyes are little protein factories and the monthlies got pretty brutal by the end with normal solution.

I am not a fan of contacts either so I only wear the daily ones for when I play sports. Otherwise I am always wearing my glasses. They do bug me if I have them in for too long, I also have a hard time putting them in, my eyes have a nervous reflux to them when something gets close.

I use the Acuvue 2 Oasys ones that you toss every 2 weeks. I barely feel them. Sometimes i accidentally forget to take them out before bed and wake up with minimal problems

Worse experience I had was the place reversed my perscription. I figured it out on my own pretty quick when everything seemed really weird.

The conversation was interesting when the following year my optometrist said my eyes hadn't changed too much from last time, but oddly my eyes swapped strengths.

When I told her that she had the last ones backwords she became pretty apologetic pretty fast.

I guess what I'm saying is if your perscription for each eye is really close, maybe they got them backwords?

I used to wear the gas permeable lenses, and they were horrible for my eyes. I had to wear them because I have an eye condition. They used to dry out my eyes and I could only stand them for a couple of hours.

I switched to soft contact lenses and my first pair were the Acuvue 2. They were ok, but they still dried my eyes. The next pairs were the Acuvue Oasys. They are great. I barely feel them.

They're so comfortable, that one time I fell asleep with them still in, and when I woke up I forgot about them. I wore my glasses with my contacts still in that whole morning
