Very Cool. Anybody seen pics of the old Flames Corral anywhere?

There's pics of my family in there, and the company my great grandfather ran (my brother and I run it now).

I'll post it if I can find it.

Edit: here it is

My great grandfather is on the far right hand side. Photo was taken in 1911.

For those who lived in Bonavista and south Calgary...Lake Bonavista when it was about as far south as you could go.

That is a strange picture. It is hard to figure out where you are. It seems like the hill is on the wrong side compared to the island.

You're looking toward slighty NE. Acadia drive is the road on the right side of the hill.
The shopping mall is just "above" the hill.

I've known about this for a while, and I've found some pretty interesting stuff. There are a bunch of pictures of my family on there too. Mostly stuff from ranchs around town, but there's one of the original family homestead. Pretty neat stuff.

Damn short sighted city council! This would have been a very cool and very historically relevant centre-piece for Prince's Island and instead we have.... nothing!

Quote:
Remarks: Published in the Calgary Herald, December 5, 1973.Logistical problems with transporting the James Short School's Cupola from storage at a Memorial Drive holding, to its (then) permanent home on Prince's Island. The 10-ton, 40-foot dome had been deteriorating at its storage yard since 1969, after a citizens' campaign saved it from the fate of the rest of the School, which was torn down. Calgary City Council was unwilling to support its restoration.

Weird. I probably scanned and entered the data for a lot of these. I was an Image Bank Technician (oooh what a title) there for about 4 years, longest tech to do it actually I did thousands and thousands!. Moved upwards since then.
Entered some classic ones in there over time. The whiskey smugglers that stuffed pigs with bottles (literally bursting at the seams with whiskey).
The lonely drunken homesteader's diary who's entries basically were "got up got drunk", "got up made fence got drunk fell over fence", "fataing wind" etc. Hilarious stuff.
Oh and the pics of dead children that pioneers burried and dressed up and put on display were surreal.
Oh then this gem:
