What's up with English people and darts?

Anyone watch this stuff on tsn or the score? Thousands of people jammed into a darts arena of some sort... and they're just tossing darts and people are going ape poop. Hell, I remember one time they were introducing the players and a guy came out to star wars music and was dressed up in full star wars garb complete with a chewbacca storm troooper etc.... wtf??

And throw sharp things. Everyone wants an environment where getting belligerently drunk is accepted and then, not only do they tolerate the haphazard tossing of sharp projectiles, they GIVE them to you!

My theory is that it's because anyone can be good at it, these guys aren't amazing physical specimens like a lot of sports require.

^^^ Hey, Locke, I'll have you know that I'm a perfectly sensible fellow.
As for quite a few fellow Englishmen I'd have to agree totally though.

I used to love watching darts on the telly. Never actually went to an event or anything but it actually looks like it would be fun to me.

reminds me of that scene in Kingpin with all those huge pro bowlers scarfing food as Ish and Munson look on in awe of the athletes.

seriously though, darts is cool.

Only if you do it while you play darts. Other then that, masturbating
is just a way of life.

We had a way to really turn darts into a sport.
If your dart didn't go into the board but bounced off, if you caught it mid-air you were allowed to throw it again.

Darts is a great spectator sport. Fantastic atmosphere.

The guy you are talking about just happens to be Canadian - John Part, a 3-time World Champion from Oshawa, also known as Darth Maple. He's an absolute darts legend. He even beat 14-time World Champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor in the 2003 finals at Purfleet. Legend.
