Could use some advice:

Want to pick up an iphone as an existing Bell customer. However I upgraded hardware one year ago so I don't qualify for any kind of discount from them.

Do I just bite the bullet and buy it from them at full price, or is there another option?

Can I pick one up online somewhere?

Try to find a used one?

Any advise / options would be appreciated.

You can probably find a used on at kijiji or craigslist...you might also want to see what your early cancellation fees (and then go to Telus/Rogers and pick up a phone there)

Thanks,

Am not to up to speed on cell phones... wondering if I happen to find a used one, does it need to be a bell specific model / one that was owned be a bell customer?

Not sure what the deal is with that.

Thanks for the reply.

I just got the iphone on Telus, but I was just about 6 months away from having an expired contract (within the last 6 months of your contract on Telus, you can renegotiate a new contract). So I was able to get it for the promotional price. Not sure how Bell operates, but if you are only 1 year into a 3 year deal you probably don't have a lot of leverage. Getting an iphone non-contract price is ridiculously expensive. There may not be a lot of used iphones available that work on telus/bell since they just began offering them.

Good luck though...its an amazing device.

For the iPhone yes it needs to be a Bell specific model, a Rogers one would be locked to Rogers.

There are ways to unlock it (unlocked meaning the phone isn't locked to any carrier), but that carries its own set of risks.

They phoned me and offered an iphone. But they wanted to give me a new number so I told them to shove it. It was some agent calling from ohio so I'm going to call them directly and tell them what I was offered and that I want my existing number. Were you forced to get a new number?

That sounds strange. They didn't call me, I wanted an iphone so I called them. I didn't change my number, they didn't even suggest it. You talking about Bell or Telus?

It was Telus. I could barely understand the guy and the area code was Ohio. He claimed to be an agent of Telus.

Really weird. I wouldn't trust it.

Thats the number that called me. After they told me I'd need a new number I told him I was unintersted and would be calling Telus to get the deals offered without needing to change my number.

I already have an iPhone from Telus, and I got mine with the same number I had before so I wonder if they were calling me for the same reason

Think about it guys. Why would a Telus agent from Ohio call you and ask you if you want to buy an iPhone?

Its obviously a scam.

It was free actually. I didnt have to pay, just renew my contract for roughly what I'm paying now.

Okay guys question, At around 6 last night my phone stopped being able to send and receive text messages. I've tried everything from turning it off and then on to removing the SIM card. Everything on my phone works except texting, any ideas?

It must be a network issue.

Apparently several people were texting me all last night too and I didn't receive a single one of them.

I've had a few issues with texts as well. Some arriving late, some not arriving at all. Not sure about calls though, those seem to be working. I guess there are a few kinks to iron out in the new network? I haven't called Telus about it yet.

Anyone know when the Droid is supposed to come to Telus? They said early 2010 and I'm wondering if that means Jan, Feb, or March.

Anyone else besides me have an unlocked iPhone being used on the telus network? Phone works as it should but when I'm in my house in the boonies signal blows mouse testicles. Other then that not to bad of a phone but the BB is far more reliable IMO.
