I don't think you're giving the Chargers enough credit. They're 9-3, have a group of receivers who pose match-up problems for everyone, and a stud QB who can drag his team to a win. The defense has been porous at times, but I think they're going to be a tough out.

A story from the KC Star yesterday about the Chiefs looming blackout sunday. It contained some interesting numbers on blackouts this season as well as in years past.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chi...y/1621874.html
Quote:
Because of the economy, the issue of blackouts throughout the NFL was a hot-button topic before the season began. A year ago, there were just nine blackouts all season, or 4 percent of the games. This year’s 15 blackouts through 13 weeks is 8 percent. That percentage is likely to rise as Jacksonville and Oakland have two more home games, including this weekend; as do Detroit and St. Louis during the final two weeks.
If all are blacked out, including the Chiefs’ last two home games, that would bring the total to 25 for the year, or about 10 percent of the 256 league games.
|
Quote:
Brian McCarthy, NFL vice president/corporate communications, points out that as recently as 2004, 11 percent of the league’s games were blacked out; and in 1999, 16 percent were blacked out. Shortly before the Chiefs began their 155-game sellout streak, 38 percent of the league’s games were blacked out in 1989. And, McCarthy said, during 1980-85, every Chiefs home game was blacked out.
“Don’t get caught up on blackout figures,” McCarthy said. “The better question to ask is how is attendance overall? We’re down a couple of percentage points, which is in line with what we anticipated.

3 coaches in 40 years and each coach has won at least 1 super bowl. i am not a pitt fan, but that is beyond impressive.

Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere. The Steelers franchise has always shown patience with it's head coaches, and the team has some key holes this season. It's offensive line being hole #1, 2 and 3.

They still aren't going to lose to Cleveland, KC AND Oakland. That's the trifecta of suck.

Its impossible for the Patriots to lose to the Browns, Chiefs or Raiders. They don't play any of those teams this year. So I guess we will never really know.

The big games this week to me are
Miami at Jacksonville, if the Jags win to get to 8-5 and put the Dolphins at 6-7, it puts the Dolphins playoff hopes in serious jeopardy, and it keeps the Jaguars 1 win up on the chasing pack. Conversely if the Dolphins win the game, they substantially improve their own playoff hopes.
Denver at Indy, Only because it has two good teams going to the playoffs. I personally don't think the game has much for playoff implications. The Broncos can lose and still get 10 wins. I really don't see the Bronco's winning the AFC West anyways and the Colts will get the AFC's top seed. If anything when the Colts win, it makes the rest of the Colts schedule more interesting as they play teams needing to get into the playoffs, and they might rest a few players.
Eagles at Giants, This game has several different playoff implications and to me it's the game of the week. An Eagles win and they take away any hope the Giants had for the Division, and put their playoff lives in a precarious position. But if the Giants can pull out the win, they get to 8-5 and could be in a 3 way tie with the Eagles, and Cowboys and thanks to the sweep of the Boys would hold the tie breaker.
Chargers at Cowboys, The game probably has a bit more at stake for Dallas given their December woes, and that they don't want to fall to 8-5. A win for the Chargers helps keep them in the running for the #2 seed and first round bye.
Bengals at Vikings, Both teams will win their Division and the Vikings are pretty much assured the 2 seed in the NFC. Still the Vikings are looking to bounce back from a tough game last week. The Bengals still don't get a great deal of respect, and want to stay in the hunt for that first round bye.
Teams like the Jets and Ravens have to win their games against the bad teams they're playing. The Steelers and Browns last night probably was a good reminder for both of them. Green Bay will keep themselves in the drivers seat if they can win in Chicago but sweeping Division opponents is never easy. Finally the Cards can clinch the NFC West with a win on Monday night. I think it will be a tough game, but this years Cards are becoming a much tougher team and I think they'll gut it out and finish pretty strong. Should be an interesting weekend of football.

Absolutely correct. Pretty meaningless game in the grand scheme, but if Denver can somehow pull a win out it would do wonders for their confidence and would make that AFC West race a bit more interesting. I personally don't see the Chargers winning out....and even records with 1 more AFC loss for San Diego and Denver wins the tiebreaker...assuming Denver beats Oakland and KC of course.
I will be treating this game as a throw away. Hope they win, not going to get all upset if they don't.

early Sunday news...
Percy harvin is out against the Bengals with migraine headaches. Big blow to the Vikes.
Deangelo Williams in for the Panthers against the Patriots. Brady is listed as questionable after not practicing this week...but we all know he will start, though he is normally listed as probable when he is on the injury list.
Adelius Thomas benched by Belichick for that game as well in response to his remarks after getting sent home earlier in the week for being late for a practice due to weather conditions.

I'm excited to see if Henning opens the playbook up for Henne again today. With Mathis out the Jags secondary imo is suspect.

Sanchez is out, Matt Ryan is highly doubtful, Vince Young probable, Ed reed is out.
For fanatasy guys...as usual this time of year, the Packers d-line is starting to look like a mash unit. Ryan Pickett is out today in all liklihood, Johnny Jolly is questionable at best, which leaves rookie BJ Raji to play a majority of the snaps. Something he has not done in his young career thus far. Look for Forte to have a big day in all probability.

Nice opening drive by the Colts.
