How does the media even get these texts? From Jaimee herself? From the cell phone company?

In the old days, instead of many mistresses, the powerful would have many wives.

So what is the purpose of the media releasing text messages? Is it the pursuit of the truth? Is he being investigated for a crime? We already know he cheated on his wife. Its nothing more than to release more to grab the attention of a public that has an insatiable thirst for gossip. These text messages are not news, they do nothing other than further inflame the situation and cause more embarrassment to those involved. So we can sit here and point fingers at Tiger all day long, but I think the way this story has continued to unfold makes me more disappointed in society than in a golfer I don't know.

I hate to alarm you but societys "insatiable thirst for gossip" is really nothing new, and will be around forever.

You are right, but I still think its messed up. What causes people to need to know every little word that was said between Tiger and his mistresses? Isn't Melrose Place enough?

People talk about their morals and not having any respect for a guy cheating on his wife, yet they have no problem absorbing all the "juicy" details about it and infringing on any privacy that Tiger or anyone involved might need to sort through this mess.

At least in the "old days" there wasn't an internet to fuel the fire of these types of stories.

I'm no Kobe fan, but there's a reason he wasn't taken to trial. The claims weren't exactly solid.

So very true. I think a lot of people just really hold themselves in very high regard so when a very public figure like Tiger Woods, someone who seemed almost infallible, is all of a sudden riddled with imperfections it helps society come to terms with their own imperfections and makes it much easier to throw stones at someone "more important". The more problems about Tiger that we know, the easier it is to be our own imperfect selves.

If that makes any sense.

Also, in my case, i just find it entertaining, and I'm studying for finals so anything to take my mind off Laplace transforms.

Then why did Kobe pay a civil settlement?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Br...l_assault_case

I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter

I'd suggest an aggressive, ethically challenged defense team combined with a large cheque contributed more to the charges being dropped than the validity of the claims.

The burden of proof in a civil case is much lower, a he said she said scenario leaves a pretty large chance of a verdict against you. Settling something like that is a no brainer when you've got the means to do it. A settlement also makes the coverage go away, and likely includes a confidentiality agreement to keep any further publicity out of the question.

Possibly, but the fact remains that the prosecution had the option to go forward with the claims and didn't. If the case was strong enough that decision wouldn't have been made.

Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere that she basically had no claim and the whole thing resulted because they had consensual sex and at the end Kobe wanted to bust his nut all over her face. She said no, he did it anyways, so she accused him of rape because she was mad.

No idea if it is accurate at all though. A total rumour. Can't remember where I heard it or I'd reference it.

My suspicion with the Bryant case was always that it was a "fine line" sexual assault. That is, it's not that he overpowered her - that would have definitely resulted in physical evidence. I think it was more of a "I agreed to have sex, but did not consent to that..." As in, he played the back 9 without asking, as CC so delicately put it. It's sexual assault, but go prove it.
To me, Tiger is a sleazeball, but Kobe is a predator...
