He was most certainly not a steroid freak wrestler, however I do not doubt that painkiller addiction or some other drug played a part in this. I think that the whole wrestler/steroid tie is overblown and that the real issue within that industry is the painkiller addiction.

He was part of a great family of Samoan wrestlers, including the Rock and Yokozuna.
His career was looking up for a little while and then he just vanished, I wonder if it had anything to do with his heart?

Fatu, 36, died Friday of a heart attack in a hospital in Houston, Texas, a family friend confirmed.
Also known as "The Samoan Bulldozer," the 6'4, 350-lb. wrestler earned a reputation for executing moves with more ease than one might expect from someone his size, facing off in high-profile bouts with WWE celebrities such as Triple H and Ric Flair.
"He was basically known for being an athletic, big man who carried some extra weight around, but moved very well for guy his size," said Kevin Eck, an assistant sports editor of the Baltimore Sun who also runs its pro-wrestling blog, Ring Posts.

oh, it was drugs (link broken ). Next time I hear a wrestlers dead, I'm not going to look into it. Vince needs to look out for his troops better, this is terrible, who'd of thought that UFC would be safer than WWE?

I don't know in this instance what more McMahon could have done, they offered to pay for rehab and Fatu refused the offer.
UFC is safer, but its still a young sport compared to Pro-Wrestling, and its not like UFC is lilly white in terms of drug violations.
As some of these guys do get older its still possible that you will see some UFC related deaths.

WWE cut their ties due to not going to clinics.
Their hands are clean of this. Some people have no one to blame but themselves.

Someone needs to do some research on steroids, and associated pharmaceuticals, it seems. Steroids do not equal bodybuilder physique.

I was watching UFC on Saturday night and they interviewed Hulk Hogan.
He signed with TNA and is getting back in the ring? WTF!?!?

In this case though steroids wasn't the problem. The guy had a painkiller addiction and refused to go to rehab so he quit. Like mentioned above too many people assume that when a wrestler dies it's because he was roided up. Painkiller addiction is the real problem.

I was simply addressing the idea that you can throw steroids out of the realm of possibility because the guy isn't some super cut athletic looking person. That's not even remotely true.
And steroids have played a significant factor in the deaths of a number of wrestlers, so the assumption isn't invalid.

I'm not saying steroids hasn't played a part in deaths especially the oldschool wrestlers like Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect. But when a wrestler dies people automatically say it's because of steroids because of the stereotype wrestlers have as juiced up muscleheads when in fact painkiller addiction is a bigger problem with the schedule these guys have.

Pretty much anyone. UFC guys fight every couple of months at the most. WWE guys have to work multiple times every week and have to work through injuries or else they might lose their job.

The official report is suppose to be released sometime this week. Along with having a painkiller addiction he was apparently addicted to Crystal Meth.

Yep it's a really hard lifestyle as they are always on the road and rarely get proper breaks to recover. Throw in steriods, alcohol, painkillers, drugs and it's no surprise many of these guys die well before the average person.

Vince has quietly worked a number of wrestlers to death: Owen hart died doing ridiculous stunts, trying to hold on to his career, Chris Benoit went insane from multiple concussions.
There's no athletic commission that protects wrestlers, just the whims of one wealthy, cut-throat businessman. You could fill a room with ideas on how Vince could make things better for his troops.
