The one downside about River Park is there has been a lot of car prowling. I had a window broken on my XTerra there recently.
The guy pulled out the same sh;t bags as I did, the mitten type - scoopies! Lol. Nobody enjoys picking up crap, but it sure beats stepping in it. Or even worse, having your dog track it into you vehicle.
I got the stink eye from a woman the other day. My poor bitch had the runs. Can't really clean up an ounce of liquid, can you? But when the mutt poses for 30 seconds, it appears to the rest of the world that she's dropping a spike worthy of taking out a city. Ah, well.

I agree. But so is having more than 1.3 children (or whatever the theoretical rate of people replacement is).

People are more important than dogs because people pay taxes and dogs don't.

Otherwise, it's a pretty close thing.

As part of our lifestyle we like to take our dog to the off-leash area. It is a great time for the dog and us dog lovers. There must be a demand for these kinds of parks because there seem to be a lot of them in the city.

We dog lovers are people. We enjoy the use of the off-leash parks. Consider the dog our toy or our activity if you wish. Just like some people like to cycle in the park or have their children play in the park or just walk in the park. To me it is all the same. That is the activity that I choose to do in the park.

So, does the city charge extra to people who cycle on the bike paths? Do they charge extra to put up play ground equipment? No. So then they should not charge extra to the people for the dog parks.

NOW, having said that. I do not mind them adding an extra $10 a year to the registration of my dog to help ensure dog parks are better maintained. Most of the off-leash parks that I go to no longer have garbage cans. I would assume they found it too costly to have to empty them multiple times per day.

Fixed for you. Dog owners shouldn't have to pay user fees anymore than playground users, road users, river pathway users, Bowness Park users, Olympic Plaza users, etc.

Actually, community associations and developers have to pay for the playground equipment. Royal Oak is trying to raise $250K for playground equipment for the new elementary school.

No, dogs aren't even remotely close.

Humans, chimps, dolphins, pigs, gorillas and several other species SHOULD all be considered higher on the importance scale than dogs. Why? Because all of the animals I listed are closer to humans genetically, smarter than dogs and have a higher level of consciousness and sentience than dogs do.

Unfortunately many people put dogs above other humans which is a whole other debate.

And Bronco was right. What a stupid idea. The parks and charging for them. I think we have enough existing parks in Calgary. Hell I'm pretty sure we have the highest park to human ratio in the known universe (and I'm not kidding).

How are dogs suppose to pay these fees? Every dog I have met is a broke moocher who can't even afford to put kibble in his own bowl.

You obviously haven't met the dog that played Air Bud or Frasier's dog. Their combined worth is like half the GDP of Canada.

Who'd have thunk Bronco was smarter than about half of the CP-ers posting in this thread?

When's the last time you saw a bicycle hunch over and take a dump on the ground?

And do you really believe that dogs are equal to children? That taking a child to the park is "just like" taking a dog to the park? That "they are all the same".

They are not all the same. You can't say taking a kid to the park is like taking a dog to the park. I mean christ, it's a dog.

Okay, first of all, there is nothing lamer than this "fixed for you" trick.

Anyway, that's quite a potent argument you've made. I will counter with this:

Dog owners should pay user fees.

Now we're at a stalemate.

What do you call registration? Bikes and rollerbladers and walkers don't pay user fees for pathways.
