Considering their lack of talent and weak coaching is that really surprising?

Pretty sure the Raps are the only team that can shoot over 52% and still lose by 35.

How many times do you have to change the head coach? Problem is the decision making by the players, shot selections and so on. I saw one game where Chris Bosh was just dominating the board but they shoot from the 3-pointer or from the outside. I don't know but I really think we need a big presence underneath the basket, like a true centre. Raptors have a power forward in Bosh, shooting forward in Bargnani, point guard in Calderon and shooting guard in Turk. No true centre.

Well maybe a veteran coach would freak out and the players would listen to him and then give the ball inside. I'm not sure why Triano was signed for 3 years or whatever, would have preferred a veteran coach.

The Raptors are all round horrible at D, unreal to see 146 points given up to the Hawks with Johnson sitting out the last 18 minutes of the game. That is some kind of bad D.

Before they fired Mitchell, the Raps were doing O.K., not great, just O.K. but as soon as Triano took over the wheels on the bus came off.

A centre may be what they need, but overall the whole team defensively blows! Tonights game is a great example of Toronto's defensive capacity.

I don't know if sarcasm is on or not, but Bosh has clearly been their best player (and only player at times). I agree with what others have said. The Raps clearly lack a real Centre. The more and more I watch Bargnani though, the more frustrated I get, and really, I blame so much of the teams problems on him. Sure he scores a lot and puts up rebound numbers, but he doesn't actually rebound. Often the rebounds come to him because of his height, but for a guy who has the stature to be a dominant rebounder and athlete, he has hops of a midget and plays like a puss. How hard is it for a guy that tall to put your hands up and jump vertically just 1.5 feet high? Guys are constantly shooting jumpers over him and all he does is watch with his hands up. What a dumb oaf. He doesn't drive to the lane as consistently as he should either. When has Bargnani ever actually fought for the ball? Argh...frustrating.

Hedo looks lethargic.

Calderon looks lost this year.

The only bright spots for the Raps are Bosh, Johnson and Bellanelli. The rest have done squat and the coaching staff can't be blamed if the players are just there to cash their cheques and don't want to commit to aggressive play.

Seems more like he's playing for a contract... also not good news for the Raptors.

I said it in the offseason thread and I got jumped on pretty hard from JohnnyFlame IIRC, but this team has no toughness and they can't play defense to save their lives. The Turkoglu signing made no sense whatsoever, all it did was make a weak defensive team weaker. He's like a smaller Bargnani. When he wants to be dominant he can be, but it's pretty rare to see.

Oh, and Triano is a horrible coach.

So at 7-13 now, they have to go at least 38-24 the rest of the way.

I don't think the problem is the defensive schemes, it's the accountability. The defense is trying to make up for weak one-on-one play by pressuring the ball and rotating. Unfortunately, it's always two crisp passes (sometimes one) away from being broken. The team is too weak to play a straight-up, one-on-one defense, and too lazy to make Triano's system work. This is the part of the season where I thought the Raps would start to come together, and I couldn't be more wrong. The lack of individual pride is really discouraging.

RAPS POINT FINGERS AT COACH, TEAM PRIDE OVER DEFENSIVE WOES

Quote:
The Raptors' losing streak is at five games and they have lost eight of their last 10. But the loss to the Hawks was especially tough in that it proved beyond any doubt (if there was any left) there is no "D" in the Raps' defence. Some players have begun to point fingers at head coach Jay Triano.

I just wish the players shut up and did their jobs rather than moan and complain about the coach. They do have a point about Triano being passive and not ripping players, but why the hell do players need to be treated like dogs to perform? Play aggressive - nobody needs to scream at you to perform, you morons. The only player I wish they yelled at would be Bargnani. His lost mongoloid look drives me nuts.

Triano is trying to pick the team up from a low spot, and not let them get too high when on a high. He's doing his job.

He hasn't figured out what to do with his roster rotations though. Calderon should be put with the second unit until he gets his head screwed on straight.

i am still going to wait until the 30 game mark to truly assess this team.

Currently, they are playing like I knew I thought they would. They are who we thought they were. One turk, unlike ottoman history, doesn't do wonders for defense.

HOwever, BC has officially come out and said to put the woes on him and his architecture.

See goze, BC knows he is ultimately responsible for this farce of a competitive team.

BC is right.

He assembled an embarassment of a team, and many fans saw that before they ever hit the floor.

I was hoping to ask Johnny some follow up questions after putting me in the "idiots" camp in the preseason, but no such luck.

I don't think this team is a bad team at all. They're one of the deepest teams in the league and pretty solid when you look at the lineup from top to bottom. They're really just lazy collectively. I'm sure Evans will have a good effect when he rejoins them, but until than, how much laissez-faire attitude do fans have to endure? Bosh has been playing great, but the other starters have been subpar to put it politely. Give us some reckless drives to the net...take flagrant fouls...anything!
