Body shop trying to charge me for something I did not OK to fix
Ok full story.
Buddy backed into my car while it was parked, was found 100% at fault and SGI OKed for me to get my car fixed on their dollar.
I took it to a local place and told them specifically before I left, if you have to do ANYTHING that is going to cost me a cent DO NOT DO IT! At the very least, call me first and I will tell you. He says oh ya ya, its all on SGI's dollar don't worry. Car will be ready by the end of the week.
That was Nov 10th. Today, November 27th, I get a phone call saying that my car is ready. They fixed the door and had to fix some dents on the front and rear fender because "it looked like #*#%, and I just couldn't paint over it like that" I said ok fine, so were even I just come pick it up?
He says I can come pick it up any time, its ready, and when i get the $100 for the rear panel dents he fixed, I can just pay him.
I said what? I told you specifically not to do anything unless you told me first, he said ya I just got SGI to cover the front panel because it was required to paint to blend in the door, but they won't cover the rear panel so its just $100.
So I left it as, I will come by after work and grab my car. Did not agree to pay him or anything.
It is only $100, but it is the principle of it. I drive a 2003 Alero, I could care less if it has dents or dings in the fenders, it was my university car because it was good on gas and will be getting sold within the year for an upgrade.
What should I do?

So if you take your car in to get a ding fixed, he can paint the entire car and charge you for it? And you have to pay?
Why don't they all just do this then and make even more money?

If they have to blend the door in most cases if there are dents and the Appraiser did not allow time to repair them either you pay or they just paint over them. What they should do is call the appraiser and got a supplement sheet on the work so you would not be charged for it.

$100.00 to you and me, maybe not such a big deal. $100.00 to the guy living on $60.00 a month for groceries, thats a big deal!
$100.00 to GreenLantern...unknown

I'd do my best to get the insurance company to cover it. Get the body shop and them to fight it out without you being in the middle. If they can't do anything about it, offer them $50.

Eff that. Don't pay them anything. Grab your car, your keys and drive away.

Go in there and embarrass them. They'll want you out the door ASAP.

I read the title and thought of that fruity shop in the mall that the ladies love with all the soaps and stuff.
Actual reply: I would not pay for it. It's a principle issue, they are trying to nickel and dime you, and shouldn't get away with that.

Hardly.
It'll work just fine. It's their mistake and if you don't bend over they'll forget about the charge. I'm sure the owner of the business has WAY better things to do with his time than harass a customer over something that isn't his fault.

Hardly? A mechanics lien is one of the easiest to obtain. If they want to get one it wouldn't be difficult at all.

I own a manufacturing company and if we eff up and give the customer more than what he wants, I'll ask him to pay for it. If he's adamant that he doesn't want to, no problem sir, here's your product and thank you for the business.
Why you would pay for something that you didn't order and don't want is beyond me. Particularly after the OP said:

There's a difference between paying for something you didn't ask for and taking your keys and driving off. Is that not obvious?

Yes there is a difference and yes it's obvious.
You are saying pay for it, even though you didn't ask for it.
I am saying don't pay for it.
Am I missing something?
