About 20 years ago I met this girl in Banff (at a bar of course) anyway, things went well, we had fun, got hammered and we went back to my hotel. My buddy went to a party so it was great for privacy.
After we did our business she goes "that'll be $100.00"
I start laughing at her and said "yeah right! baby" she says sorry honey it was fun but I'm a professional and need to get paid. I asked her again if she's serious? she says yes i want a $100.00.So I did what I assume most people would do...kicked her out in the hallway and told her to ###### off.

Next morning my buddy wakes me up and asks? "what the ###### happened to your car?"

Two slashed tires and 3 smashed windows.

Guess I should have negotiated a discount huh?

So was she hot enough to make this a positive outcome?

A. I'd leave $40 the first time, and around $30 from there on out. The tricky part is the change situation, if you only have two 20's you can't really ask your friend to break it without looking like a ######.

B. I'd leave $100, you're still getting a significant discount ($60 or so) and you tip very generously.

As for the whole 'stealing' issue brought up earlier, I guess technically you're right but most bars have this type of thing built in. They like when friends come in, they tend to drink a lot and bring a lot of people with them. The margin is still met for the most part, and a group of people having a good time breeds more people having a good time and spending. I don't think they do it in Calgary, but in NYC a lot of bars do 'guest bartending' for the very purpose of people bringing their friends in, liberal pours and forgotten beers are assumed because there are 30 people in a place that may typically only have 10.

Ummm..not even close

I was too poor (or stupid) to have anything more than PLPD insurance on my car, I bought 2 used tires for around $90 installed, then installed 2 of the windows myself(pain in the arse) for a cost of $80.00 and about $100.00 for the windshield a month later.(I drove basicly blind for a month with that window)

She was a costly ho!

One of the servers at my golf club always gives us a couple of freebie glasses of wine after each round... I always give her an extra tip for it... that's what continues the trend...

You have friends that are giving you free things, but their managers don't know about it, they are stealing. Therefore, you don't have to tip in dollars, keeping your mouth shut and your friends remaining employed is tip enough
Yeah cause comping for regulars and friends is never a good idea in the restaurant/bar industry..... No one wants to like keep the patrons coming and spending!

My friends that used to work at a popular bar in Edmonton used to have a set amount every night that they could use as "promo". This included free shots for good tables, free food to compensate for bad service, or hooking up their friends that came in. As long as they didn't go over, no problem.

The best night was when one of those guys was quitting. It was also the last night the current owners owned the bar, and they had closed to books the night before (meaning they were taking cash for all the sales that night and the poor sap buying it was getting less booze/food stock than they thought). So yeah, free booze and food all night, and an appearance by Jamie MacLennan.

First situation:

Depending how close the friend is. If it's a real close friend I'll just ask them if they're keeping the $20 or if it's going to the register. If it's going into their pocket, I don't have to tip. If it's going to the register, I'll give em another $20.

Not such a close friend, I'll probably throw an extra $10 on there.

Friend that I hook up on occasion similarly, tip them according to what they tip me.

Second situation:

I'd probably leave $100.
