Sooner or later people will stop be suckered... Oh wait, there's one born every minute. Nevermind.
There are about 250 babies born every minute worldwide so if only 1/250 is a sucker I'd say we're doing pretty well! It's probably more along the lines 200 suckers born every minute.

How were people "suckered"? By going out and getting a vaccination so that they don't get the flu themselves *and* infect others? Oi.

*IF* what I had was indeed H1N1, I think I would have much preferred to have rushed out and gotten the vaccine on day 1.

As I had mentioned in the thread a few times earlier, I had a co-worker who's wife ended up on life support from this bug. Twice he got the "Get your affairs in order" warning from the doctor, and miraculously, she is actually expected to pull through after 4 weeks in full sedation. She had full renal failure, is currently on oxygen, doctors are working to get her off dialisis now and she is in full physio learning how to walk again, and is expected to have life long effects, but she made it through this. Needless to say, we are all very happy it turned out this way. All this over a frikkin flu.

Yes, people are suckers for listening to the advice of professional doctors and medical practioners. Apparently they're sheep compared to all the enlightened people who are smarter than even these professionals because they did their research on the interwebs.

I'm not necessarily saying H1N1 isn't legit, however the reasoning of just because medical doctors say so isn't enough IMO.
Doctors are only people, and they're following what they're told by higher ups just like everyone else. If the medical authorities in each country say something is harmful, doctors will agree. So having said that, what if the medical authorities got it wrong or overestimated the results, or worse are trying to profit from it.

Look at what happened in the US financial markets based on what "financial experts" were saying. Mass scamming and fiscal irresponsibility so a few could get filthy rich. Your average financial advisor would have told you the opposite was coming based on what they know, read and were told within the industry. What makes doctors so different?

I know we'd all love to think health care is one fraud proof area, but it's huge business and you'd have to be pretty ignorant to think no one is trying to profit off something like H1N1 and the vaccine.

Got mine today.

I was a brave boy and didn't cry.

Steady stream of folks at the Richmond clinic. However everyone moved through so quickly I was out of there in 20 minutes (and that's because they make you sit in a waiting room 15 minutes). Walked in, filled out the form, got the shot right away. Complimentary parking. No fuss no muss.

Really happy I finally got the shot. I have a few autoimmune diseases, so last thing I needed was a flu virus kick-starting another round of illness or worse.

I'd rather officials over-estimate pandemics than under-estimate them.

I'm taking you're not old enough to have lived through the polio epidemic. I'm not either, I'm just amazed at how complacent and fearful people have gotten when they aren't FORCED to realize how very important somethings are.

I agree that the media has overblown this for sure. Way overblown. I also agree that the dangers of the flu aren't as bad as they originally thought they were. I will also agree that there is a small (miniscule) unknown variable with anything you put into your body and there could be some harm associated with it. IE, allergy, dangerous compounds, side affects.

I agree with all three of those things.

However, if anyone doesn't think that getting a vaccination is the safest of all options, unless they specifically know they will react to it, then they just don't know enough about science and medicine. End of story. Sorry but it's true.

Vaccinations are the best personal and societal defense we have against disease. (Aside form just being clean)

I find it funny that a lot of people say, 'you shouldn't believe everything you're told', but then go and quote some website or some info or heresay that is even more unreliable than the original information.

Oh no, you don't Mr. Nexopia. The weight of scientific evidence behind the efficacy of vaccines is staggering.

Meanwhile, the naysayers have zilch, nothing, nada...

You know what they say about claims without evidence... they can be dismissed without evidence.

Got mine yesterday - similar experience as Reg - a 20 minute experience, 15 of which was waiting to see if I had a bad reaction.

I'm surprised how sore my shoulder is a day later. It's not really painful but just enough to be irritating.

I don't get the regular vaccine but I figured why take chances with this one.

Why do you keep bringing up Nexopia?

The naysayers do have evidence.

oh you guys are all so witty with your jokes.

I am proving it to myself. The H1N1 craze was created by the media.

Sadly, I'm guessing the real joke here is that your "proof" is entirely conjecture from internet sites that you blindly accept without actually questioning/assessing their own validity.
