Nothing very noteworthy IMO. Hoodoos and Aurora have stuff going on as well as the two big hotels should as well. There's usually 1-2 good parties, but those are mostly for locals.

My family and I went up last year. We went to the Keg for dinner and had a fun time. I was still 17 at the time, so I dont really know much about the nightlife/bars.

Aurora is effing sick! (at least from what I can remember) We partied with some of the Stamps there last year after the Grey Cup win. I thought it was a pretty unreal bar...but then again, I was in no condition to be making any important decisions at that time haha.

I lived in canmore for awhile, and spent a couple of new years in Banff, Hoodoo's is good, same with the rose and crown.
But beware, if your slobbering drunk and weaving your way back to the hotel, the RCMP WILL pick you up , and you'll for go the $250/night rate for the room with a sloped floor and room mates with similar problem!

Yikes that's steep for a single night of partying...I think I'll take my chances and party at home. Or carry on my tradition of taking New Years off, and ring in 2010 with no hangover!

Stay local, there is nothing worse than spending New Years with a bunch of Oversea'rs that are pissed out of their gourd, and talking about gap jumping something (in actuallity, they snow plow and are trying to jump the magic carpet before decapitating themselves on the snowfence)
Best thing to do if your set on going up, go skiing, meet some local cuties in the bar and get invites to a locals party. lots of fun and usually alot cheaper!

Yeah there's no way in hell I'd pay 100 bucks just so I could be let into a place that's selling beer at 7 bucks a pop. If it was a hundred and open bar then maybe. But no nightclub (even the Aurora) is worth a hundred dollar entry fee. Christ, I could buy a bottle of both Black Label and Crown Royal Special Reserve for that much, let alone how much I'd spend in the bar.

I'm thinking of just taking New Years off this year and donating my driving services to get friends home safe.

Hrmm not to hi jack this thread but I was going to make a similar one I might as well keep this going.
We are actually renting a cabin in Canmore for New Years. I am not sure if we planned on going out or just partying there with who we go with ( around 15 of us) but anyone got any fun tips for stuff to do in the area besides the Banff snowboarding trip?
I heard there is some fun dog sled rides, any info on that? We are there for 4 or 5 days so we have a lot of time to fill. And it is a buddy trip females and males, not a family excursion so the activities can be a little more intense.

I find whenever I'm in Banff parties just happen. Could be good luck, but I say fly by the seat of your pants. If there's 15 of you, you have a built in party already as a worst-case scenario. I bet you'll find something even more fun, though. Just wandering around downtown at midnight is party enough the couple of years I've been there for New Year's.

Yeah, sorry. They only have 365 to the Springs 700ish? They always have a dinner/gala thing every year.

The future Mrs. Cactus Jack and I don't really want some fancy, expensive gala and I looked at the website linked above. Although it's just a regular pub, the Elk and Oarsman looks good and they have fireworks on their rooftop patio. Can any recommend this for new years?
