Default Cigarette smoke can void your computer's warranty

Two readers in different parts of the country claim that their Applecare warranties were voided due to secondhand smoke. Both readers appealed their cases up to the office of God Steve Jobs himself. Both lost.

That seems kind of crazy. You would think that should be something mentioned in the paperwork. I would say it was just some tech being a jerk, but 2 separate reports, and both tried escalating the issue to no avail (although I seriously doubt if Steve Jobs knew anything about either of these cases).

Wow.

has voided the warranty and they refuse to work on the machine, due to "health risks of second hand smoke".
The only reason they won't fix it is because they are afraid of the health risks? That is completely ######ed.

I dont get it.

Because someone had smoked near the computer, the tech didnt want to work on the computer? Or was this an on site repair?

If it was on site, I have no problem with it - cant a chain smoker stop while someone is working on the damn computer - wow the ignorance of some people. If the "smoker" brought the computer in to be worked on then I really dont understand the problem.

Ya I don't see how you can get second hand smoke from a computer. Apple just wanted to get out of fixing the product. This just sounds ridiculous.

I love how you see the three same images all over the web, as depicted here: http://hubpages.com/hub/How-Cigarett...ages-Computers

It's always the same three pictures, on every site that has photos of the phenomenon.

They are saying that the build up of second hand smoke mixed with the dust making sticky smokey dust is the bio-hazard due to the nicotine.

I agree with them not honoring the warranty but not due to the "Health Risks" I mean simple mask and gloves if you are that worried. I have seen the insides of a smokers Computer/Console and when it mixes with the dust it cause a thick nasty dust that sticks to components and doesn't blow out. Anyone can see how this would be harmful to your system causing over heating and other possible problems.
