The YMCA gave my drivers license to some stranger!
Tonight I went down to the YMCA for a workout, as my regular gym is not open Sunday.
I gave my license to the girl at the reception desk to hold as I always do when I buy a day pass at the YMCA.
I come down after my workout and ask for my license back. The girls ask for my name and then says "****", I gave your license away to some other guy.
She thinks she has the other guys license, but she's not sure. She has no phone number to contact him. She told me to call back later in the week to see if someone brought it back.
I was fuming mad, but I was polite and just left. I think I'm going to go down in the daytime and speak to a manger about this.
So now some stranger has all the personal information on my license.
Any suggestions on what I should do?

Wow, that sucks man. Did she have the other guy's license, if not I think you may be SOL since she doesn't know who the guy is. Hopefully the person realizes the mistake and brings it back?

She thinks she has the other guys license. I would assume when they close, that there will be an extra license at the desk.

I have major beef against the downtown YMCA.
I come back for winter break and in my haste to get to the Y and meet some friends, I grabbed my Dad's Y card instead of mine and when I get there, I get accused of stealing my Dad's card to try and sneak in (he has + membership while I have normal) and CONFISCATES my Dad's card and I get a note on my file.
I filed a complaint and nothing came out of it. So my Dad had to go get a new card and my account is flagged.
Sorry to hear about your situation kaddy...did you manage to get her name? Try giving the manager a ring or an email. Maybe they will do something.
At least ask for some complimentary day passes for your trouble. I know that they do give those out if you have a valid complaint (although I got jack all).
Good luck!

Not sure what to tell you, try calling in the morning and seeing what is going to happen. Good luck, I hope the manager can do something.

I HATE to say this, but sounds like you shouldn't have trusted her with your card (clearly). I'm not sure there's much that can be done, I'm sure they have a policy that they don't claim to protect items left at the desk, just for this reason.
You should always keep your license with you or locked up.

She thinks she has the other guys licence? really? is she serious? does she not look at the picture on the card before giving it to the stranger? I THINKS she should GTFO and get fired.

I would just call later. I'm sure this guy wants his licence as badly as you want yours. What good is another persons licence to a different person anyways.
As for this girl, ya I'd be pretty pissed too. But usually I try to let cooler heads prevail. I'm sure it was a mistake on her part and she doesn't deserve to be fired over it. If she was genuine in her apology and wanted to do what she could to help, she deserves a second chance. If she was a huge bitch that couldn't care less about her mistake, and has a history of being stupid, I'd make sure she is mopping floors at Mcdonalds the next week. (No offense if someone here actually does that)

In future you can tell the YMCA that you won't be giving them your drivers license. There is no excuse for what happened.

I won't be giving it to them again. I'm might go and raise hell tomorrow with the management at the YMCA (Eau Claire). This is a big inconvenience and waste of my time.

Yeah I know..... a license with a name + photo, how hard is that to match up!! There are maybe about 10 ppl in Canada that have the same last name as me.

She attempted to look up the guy that she "thought" she gave my license to, and he was a one time drop in with no phone number.

I don't even think she said sorry. She said she'll make notes on my account and phone me if it turns up.

Why are you giving your driver's license to the YMCA in the first place?
EDIT:
I mean, do they have a policy that says you have to?

Hopefully this guy wants his license back as bad as you want yours since driving with someone else's license won't really be an excuse when the cops pull you over and I doubt he wants to pay $80 for a new one.

I still can't believe the guy would accept the DL and not even glance down at it to see if he was receiving the correct one. You would think he would notice right away when he was sliding it back into his wallet. Good luck in getting yours back - hopefully it is a quick fix this morning!

This is one thing I just can't understand. If I was given a DL i'd verify it was mine and even the girl, giving it back you would think she would double check if not then atleast ask for the name before handing over a DL? If they can't get it back I sure hope the manager will foot the bill for a new DL as they are not that cheap.

Mr. Frank Work, Q.C., may be interested in your story: http://www.oipc.ab.ca/pages/home/ContactUs.aspx
If nothing else, firing off an email to the OIPC might help alleviate your frustration.

lol at you guys wanting to fire her knowing nothing about her except for one mistake and none of the lead up that led to the mistake.
It does suck for the OP, but I hardly think we're in a position to call for her head at this point. I think the way the OP is handling it seems pretty reasonable. See what the manager has to say and he should be able to help you resolve this and compensate you for your time (and money if you have to get a new license).

I agree 100% about the people saying she should get fired.
I mean, I don't know any of those folks, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's unlikley they've never made a mistake at work, and if they did, they probably didn't get fired over it.
