Scientology faces allegations of torture in Australia
Warning!!! This is a pseudo religious attack thread! Stay away if you do not like these.
Time to pick on Tom's favorite organization again!
The Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, has said he would consider an inquiry into the Church of Scientology after a senator tabled allegations against the organisation including forced abortions, assault, torture, imprisonment, covering up sexual abuse, embezzlement of church funds and blackmail.
Senator Nick Xenophon tabled letters from former officials and staff of the Church of Scientology alleging criminal activity, and demanded a review of the organisation's tax exempt status.
Gotta love that Australian Senator's name...he fits into this scenario perfectly!

Here we go again with CP bashing religion. I do not understand why people constantly attack these organizations for having tax exempt status. They are perfectly legitimate organizations that provide mental security in exchange for certain monetary donations or other favours.
Perfectly legitimate.

There is a new Scientology building about a 10 minute walk from my place. The building was being renovated for a while, and I didn't know what it was going to be. I was really excited because I thought it would be nice condos or office space. Then, one day, I looked into one of the windows and read some strange phrases on the walls, then it clicked. I was pissed. Such a waste of prime property.
There was a protest out front a week later. I was in total support of the sign: "Honk if you think Scientology is a scam!"

Wasn't the hollywood group of scientologists also accused of a similar thing by detaining and refusing to allow people to leave the church?

Why should religion be free from criticism? Why should topics that aren't favorable for religion be shunned or stopped?
Its in the same category as politics or other passionate topics, some people don't want to participate in those and they have that choice to not get involved.
Besides, you really consider scientology a religion?

the amount of people that take everything written on this board at face value boggles my mind. you shouldn't need green text to warn people that something outlandish you just typed is in fact sarcasm

Took me awhile but "The Church of T@T" is now excepting members.
For a small fee our church will:
1)Make it so you don't have to ever worry about crashing your car and getting hurt.
because you don't need a car..we will sell it for the good of the church
2)Remove that evil stress in your life.
because the only thing you'll ever need the church will supply,Roof over your head,3 meals a day, transportation to and from work. We'll even supply the agent to sell your house for the church.
3)Make you far more healthy.
because all those expensive fatty foods will be removed from your diet and replaced with natural grains, vegetables etc, you'll be far thinner and healthier.
4)Give you the feeling of having a whole new family.
because we believe at the church that your old family and friends are evil so we'll replace them for you.
Maybe the other members can add to the list of good things our church will offer in the future

Any time I find out some one is a Scientologist I lose all respect for them. Jason Lee, Beck, Nancy Cartwright, Jenna Elfman, Kirstie Alley, Isaac Hayes, Laura Prepon, Patrick Swayze,
I at some point liked all these people for their talent. Because of that evil corporation, now I do not. =|

Members from other religions believe equally as ridiculous things as Scientologists. Can we assume you don't have respect for them as well?

It's not what they believe. It's how evil that corporation actually is.
