Is it just me or is it sketchy that you want to know if I'm going to get my house monitored or not?

Well it certainly points to a paranoia that is consistent with you starting this thread in the first place.

I think what we are going to do is arm the system when we leave the house. I hate to be one of those people who has to have something bad happen to them to change their ways, but by the sounds of it... for the money, it's not worth having someone else take care of this for us.

Plus we have a skiddish smaller dog too, so I'm sure that will help if someone were to break in.

bump.

So, after reading this, I see most suggest not going with it. However, our home insurance would be lower if we went ahead with an alarm. I'm looking for a piece of mind for when we're not at home.. people are saying the response is pretty lame?

The RCMP get loads of home alarm calls that they respond to. Does CPS respond to house alarms?

As an installer, the best companies out there are Chubb and ADT. As for response times, if you go without guard service (just go with police response) then those times come down immensely. In Calgary CPS are called not RCMP. ADT is the only company that does not contract out monitoring. And yes, depending on which insurance company you are with, you get up to 20% off

I know with Meloche you get the max.

That in itself pays for your system.

Also, if your looking to go through ADT, give me a PM and I'll hook you up here in Calgary. If you phone the 1800 in the book, it connects you with Florida - which is frikkin stupid.

Personally i like Alarm systems. But more for life safety rather than Burglary - i have insurance for that. I have smoke/heat detectors, co detectors, flood and low temps all hooked up. If anything, if your home and someone breaks in then your going to know - if you have a proper system then noone should be able to sneak in and get out without you knowing.

I have ADT. I like having the fire alarms being monitored when I am not home. I do like the idea the police will come eventually if someone breaks in but it makes me comfortable to know that if someone is in my house I will know about it before they can get anywhere near my stairs. At least I can be ready for them.

Can you monitor your house from work? IE: Log on to a website to check the status of your alarm or get txt messages when something goes off?

I'm unsure about this but I do know that Honeywell in the US now has an Iphone App that can check your system. I'm sure if there is that then the latters are probable. I can't wait for that app to make it up here.
