this is overgeneralizing but if you've seen one RTS you've seen them all. the graphics keep improving and there are minor gameplay elements, but because twitch reactions are so important you're basically playing whackamole in 3d
Did you mean to say FPS where you said RTS?

i'm not much of a RTS fan, but World In Conflict is a great game. it's not a standard RTS in that there's no resource gathering or base building, it's all about combat and tactics. the single player story is awesome too, set in an alternate 1980's where the Soviet Union invades the USA. kind of like Red Dawn except without the cheese

Except for Alec Baldwin. His ridiculous melodramatic Americatastic narration ruined the entire game for me.

I think you had best not surf the rest of the net if you can't stand "bloody acronyms".

You might not survive out there brahski!

Thats all I play is RTS and Simultion games - shooter games bore me.

Civ4 BTS
RTW
MTW
Sim City 4
Company of Heroes
AirwaySim - great web based airline sim game. Very reasonably priced.

Low attention span of todays youth plus the inability to adapt to console gaming without a keyboard hurts RTS. I wouldnt say it costs any more than a shooter, but the shooter can get the console crossover, possible online pay mode.

That's a Real Time Tactics game. No resource management. I really got into End War in the last little while. Really cool being able to give commands via voice.

Blizzard says first half of 2010.. Knowing Blizzard likely Christmas 2010

Apparently they're revamping battle.net which is the reason for the delay.

They will probably release it on June 30th, just so they can F over an entire summer for kids that are still in school. That's what happened to me when D2 came out. Many nights of going to bed at 5 am and getting up at 3 pm.

Only 23% even attempted to play Multiplayer in Demigod.

Quote:
For Stardock, the more significant shock of Demigod has been the discovery of the low number of PC gamers who play strategy games online. Demigod’s single player experience, while decent, did not get anywhere near the care that the Internet multiplayer experience did. Despite this, only 23% of people who have purchased Demigod have ever even attempted to logon to play Internet multiplayer.
I personally purchased Demigod and thoroughly loved the online experience. I purchased it with a group of 5 others, and only three of us wanted to try games with strangers in it. Frankly, the three of them would not have played online had we not been there.

In the comments section, I was shocked to find so many people saying that they only played the campaigns in various RTS's and never went online with it. The fear of getting beat down by top players hurts the community a lot.

I guess this is why most companies refuse to even try to make a good RTS nowadays.

I know that's the point of a strategy game. You need to out-think your opponent while out-playing as well, which makes every opponent different.

However, I have finally succumbed to the reality that all gamers, and people in general, want is instant gratification. WoW compared to any MMO that needs you to "work" a little bit. FPS'es that put you in the fray with a huge gun at the start, rather than having to build your little base to become a power.

Oh, and guns in said FPS'es can't be too deadly. Even newbies should have 10 seconds of randomly spraying their gun to make them feel like they've accomplished something (ie. Halo). Give everyone a little feeling of accomplishment, and maybe a kill once in awhile, and your game becomes hugely popular.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, strategy games aren't like this. If you aren't good enough, you WILL lose every game you play. This by itself makes RTS'es, and strategy games in general a dying genre.
