Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. My mom passed away this morning - 12 days after being taken to hospital. We are all really tired, and a long week of funeral planning coming up.

It really sucks too, our son isn't even yet 7 weeks old.

I am sorry to hear about her passing. Like I said in my earlier post, nobody can ever take away the memories and all the good times you had together. Cherish those.........you will smile about them and they will get you through some tough days.

RIP to your mother and thoughts/condolences go out to your entire family.

Hi

I didn't see this thread until now and read each page. I know how it feels...the relief that your loved one isn't suffering and the emptiness you feel because you miss them so much and the sadness you feel too. My dad was in at Chinook Hospice last year from Dec 22, 2008 until Jan 13th, 2009 when he passed away. The last few days were the hardest because he became totally unresponsive and we knew it was coming.

Your family is lucky to have you - you are lucky to have each other. Your son will have wonderful memories that you will pass down. I know it isn't fair, and I hate cancer too. But hang in there...it does get a little easier as time passes, although I still get sad every other day when I hear a song on the radio, read a funny joke (my dad had a good sense of humor) or need help with something practical (my dad gave the best advice).

Hang in there..I know its hard, almost nothing can be harder. Just be thankful of all the wonderful times you did spend together as a family and all of the happy memories you had

Terrible news, Thneed. Glad you were able to make her last days comfortable. Talk to your son often about your Mom, your memories of her will be a window for him to see how great she was.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family. For future consideration you may wish to consider attending the Grief Support Group at Rockyview Hospital. I have just completed the six week course for parent loss (my mother died and I was coping very badly) and I cannot sing the praises enough of Reverend Bob and the volunteers who helped us so much. It is non-denominational, for those interested, just focuses on methods of recovery and talking about our loved one - very cathartic and highly recommended.

Thanks guys. As the sheer amount of people in this thread clearly shows, cancer is one of those elements of life that affects everyone sooner or later. Hopefully we can all at least take away a valuable lesson from it.

Condolences to both of you. Things like this (and my mom's battle with cancer) always serve to remind how important family is. I hope you can all be a support to each other during this difficult time, and celebrate the lives of those who have been lost rather than be overwhelmed with the death. Cherish the memories.

I've been dreading opening this thread.

Thneed and Table.

First of all I am really sorry to hear about your loss, please accept my sincere condolances.

We all know that life ends in death but Cancer somehow screws up that whole thing. In many cases death comes too early in life, lasts too long and is too painful. Since my father passed away I ONLY support Cancer related charities. If I can see more meaningful Cancer treatments in my lifetime I'll be a happy man.

All the best to you both, Cancer may have stolen your parent/grandparent but not the memories of your life together.
