The thing is Dion, considering his wife was a family doctor one would presume he'd either (a) had it or (b) was waiting his turn.

If he was (a) then the way the whole thing has been presented is that he would have exploited his relationship and jumped the queue.

If it was (b) then there is the argument; now; that everyone should go out and get it.

Whilst ... http://twitter.com/ottawahealth

So to use it as an argument (for want of a better word) for people getting the shot is incorrect. If he was being responsible, he was waiting.

As things stand by the time they get round to vaccinating everyone the flu season will be over.

Car accidents, another reason why people should strongly consider not driving.

I wish you could sit down and chat with my wife, a registered nurse (ICU) here in Calgary, for about five minutes.

I was simply pointing out a fact that healthy people can die from getting the H1N1 and that people should consider that when they decide wether the shot is worth getting.

I sucked it up and got the shot today. I hate needles, and my experience was just fine. No pain, and no immediate side affect like I've had happen in the past. Also, no lines at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Right now my arm hurts a bit, as if someone gave me a good punch, but other than that I'm good to go.

Why?

You think that HOOT is going to believe her BS anymore than the other BS out there?

I don't disagree with this, but the only way to conclude this was a healthy person is with an autopsy

Larf.
Why would she have any reason to "BS" HOOT? She's on the front line - she's not some media hack.
All I can say is I've had my eyes opened............let's leave it at that.

I'm pretty sure i have the swine. And while it sucks and is lingering, it is hardly worse than any other bad cold or flu i've had.

Color me unimpressed.

I choose not to live in fear of everything that could possibly get me sick and/or dead. I'm not too sure what she could tell that would change my mind about this silly little flu. People get sick and/or die everyday from a numerous amount of things each day, if this happens to be the one I die from...oh well!

But if you could take steps to keep yourself alive, at no cost to you, shouldn't you do it? For your sake, for your family's sake?

The fact is: Healthy people aren't a priority group. And there isn't enough vaccines to accomodate them.

I was simply pointing out that when all's said and done "by the book" it's an "unfortunate death".

Dude would have been waiting till god knows when to get vaccinated.

I'm not suggesting wrongdoing from anyone just simply that he wasn't in the riskcategory.

I do. By being careful enough everyday and wash my hands regularly, just like I would do all the time to prevent getting sick. I've never had the seasonal flu shot so this is no different. I could or couldn't get sick and who knows maybe I already got it and it went away.

I agree it's an unfortunate death and my condolances go out to the family and his friends.

Even if the flu season is over by the time no risk people can get thier shots there's always next year to prepare for. I just think getting that shot would minimise the risk.

Fagnou was a gifted young researcher and hell of a nice guy. He had great things in his future. I was just reading some of his papers earlier this week catching up on recent work in C-H activation (some of my past work dealt with that). It's shocking news.

But, we may never know if there were underlying conditions or not. Clearly none were KNOWN...I just wish the media would clarify that and not have as so matter of fact.

I've had my seasonal flu and just got my H1N1 this past week. Kids go this week for theirs.

Did I once state that I'm the only one that has direct contact with "Front Line" workers?

My original query..........why would she "BS" HOOT? What would be in it for her? She's not connected to the media in any way.........

Well it's your choice. I look at this vaccine as just another way to prevent sickness such as washing your hands. I've done a complete 180 on H1N1.

Its sad Carl Sagan said this 20/30/40 years ago about mistrust of science, yet here we are with massive mistrust by people who do not understand virology or disease like those experts we rely on for solid information.

Yes, there has been some fear over this, but its always in the best interest of the public, the people researching these influenza's are deeply aware of the spanish flu and what it can become.

Not to mention they do not want people who are healthy to die because they think a flu shot is some government conspiracy, paranoia, fear from media, etc..

People with no right to be talking about what is right or wrong fuel their new found 'expertise' with an article here and there, also finding websites from people who are as uninformed as they are.

This is a deadly cocktail, from global warming, evolution, to warning of imminent threats a lot of the population of this world is not only distrustful but outright hostile to science.

This has to stop.

here are the numbers in the US...very sobering.

Quote:
Swine flu has swept through about 22 million Americans from April to October, killing an estimated 3,900 people, including 540 children, health officials said Thursday.

The new national estimates are extrapolations of data drawn from a CDC emerging-diseases network of hospitals, laboratories and health departments in 10 states and from reports of hospitalizations and deaths, Schuchat says. They illustrate the extent to which swine flu, also known as H1N1, is hitting children, who account for 8 million infections, 36,000 hospitalizations and 540 deaths. In a typical flu season, about 80 children die.

In a typical flu season, which ends in May, 90% of deaths and hospitalizations involve people 65 and older. The H1N1 outbreak began in April; 90% of those who become infected and need medical care are younger than 65
