I watched some of the Mac vs Queens. Ugly day for my alma mater.

They outgained Queens, but had 8 turnovers.

For some reason, the Vancouver sports media always talk about UBC football doing the same. I don't have any idea of why they would.

From what I watched, Queens got an early lead and the wind played a big role.

yea i hear this too, i don't understand why either would, they will have to deal with travel across the border and have been not so good the last few years

The only benefit that I can see is a reduction in travel costs as you'd be bussing it into Washington and maybe as far as Oregon or Idaho the day before a game as opposed to flying to all of your out-of town games a couple days before, staying in hotels, organizing that many more team meals (which always sucked), and the awesome $5/day meal money they'd give us.

$5/day? Man you guys got screwed. We got way more than that.

The rationale as far as I've heard is the ability to offer athletic scholarships. I'm not really sure how that benefits the University, especially since games against little known American schools are going to be unlikely to garner any buzz at all.

SFU's quarterback passes away at 21. They figure there was an undetected heart defect.

Not only that, when we wanted to get new uniforms in 2001 we had to do fund raising similar to what we did in minor hockey to offset the costs of tournaments, and travel. They had us selling meat, entertainment books, working security at beer gardens, and if we didn't raise a full $300 we had to pay the difference out of pocket. The lower mainland kids just got their parents to do all the work-like when I was in Pee-Wee hockey, but for us out of towners, selling meat in bulk was not easy on campus. And our uni's in 2000 were pretty welfare, the numbers were not all the same distance from the T-birds writing at the top and some of the jerseys didn't even have T-birds on the front.
I went from the Okanagan Sun, which we always had good gear and the behind the scenes organization was top-notch to what seemed like a shoestring budget at UBC. It was a downgrade in facilities, uniforms, and professionalism. It's no wonder that winning dropped on the priority list at UBC as well.

I went the other way around, from the Dinos to the Colts (just didn't enjoy the countless hours of meetings enough to keep up with CIS football). Not the same standards at all, but I knew that going in. I had no idea UBC was like that, you guys had a lot of talent in those days too.

Plenty of individual success but as a whole we couldn't keep it together.
UBC was a great university to go to as far as preparing me for life after football but as far as a choice for football, I wish I'd went elsewhere.
Did you play with Ryan Folk or Sean Ingram when you played for the Dino's?

I left before they got there, but I had a few classes with Folk and hung out with him quite a bit. Hilarious guy.

Dinos just had a punt blocked by the Huskies. Sask returns it for a TD, 26-22 Huskies, midway through the 3rd.

Man, Dinos got the luck they needed the kicker for Rams couldn't get good leg on it and missed the game winning field goal.

On to St. Mary's.

Two great games today.

Final Four:

http://www.tsn.ca/cis/story/?id=298343

The defending Vanier Cup champion Laval Rouge et Or, Queen's Golden Gaels, Saint Mary's Huskies and Calgary Dinos have advanced to the final four in Canadian university football.

Queen's will host that contest after holding off the Western Mustangs 43-39 in the Ontario final. Danny Brannagan threw for 515 yards and five touchdowns but still needed a last-second defensive stand to clinch the win.

There was more drama in the West final, as Calgary rallied past the Saskatchewan Huskies 39-38 to earn a berth in the Uteck Bowl.

CGY is lucky to avoid Laval, and goes to St. Mary's.

awesome for the dinos to keep on going. and very lucky not to play laval, like last year when Laval was up 49-0 by the half. and the games are on TSN for the semis and the vanier, which is great. hopefully they get chris cuthbert or someone calling the Dinos game.
