Default GAME 18: STAMPS at Riders

Last game of the season for the Stamps and the Riders. First Place in the West and a bye for the first round is on the line. Stamps already secured at least a home date in the playoff and the lower they can place is 2nd in the West. Riders on the hand can place 1st, 2nd or even 3rd place. A win by the Stamps and also a win by BC Lions against the Eskimos means Riders will be in 3rd place. If the Riders lose, ties and BC lose, they get the 2nd place. A Stamps lost means Riders is in first and Calgary in 2nd.

Last game between the Riders and Calgary, they ended up in a tie. It was one of the most exciting game in the CFL this season. They were also a lot of strange things happenned in that game.

OFFENSE: QB Henry Burris is starting to pick up his play and it is the right time. He is getting some good chemistry with Romby Bryant. With another weapon, we can see Copeland, and Lewis start getting some openings.
Joffrey Reynolds, Stamps Most Valuable Player this season ran all over BC Lions at the right time last game. Reynolds is CFL rushing leader this season. Nik Lewis finally got his first TD catch last week. Wow, pretty amazing for someone who's been reliable in catching the ball finally got his 1st TD catch after 17 games. FB Rob Cote was awesome last game and he's one of the reason why the offense started rolling last game.

DEFENSE: Last time the Riders and Stamps played, the Stamps defense were missing a lot of tackles. Andy Fantusz pretty much took care of the Stamps defense. Last game against BC they were a force against QB Printers and the offense. DL Charleston Hughes been playing well and so as Jim Davis. Unfortunately Jim Davis is kind of questionable on this game. Mike Labinjo also missed last game and missed some practice this week.

SPECIAL TEAM: Our special team cover teams played a lot better the last two games (vs Eskimos and BC Lions). Against the Riders last game, Armstead had a great game. I am hoping it will not repeat on this game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The Stamps might be playing on the road at Mosaic (Taylor Field) but i am sure they are used to seeing a lot of green uniforms in the stand. Even playing at home, there seems to be more green jerseys on the stand. I cannot wait to watch this game.

GO STAMPS GO!!!!

More updates to come before game time.

....
You might want to change that, the Riders clinched a home playoff game when the Stamps beat the Lions last week. So even if BC wins and the Riders lose, BC would be 9-9, Riders would be 9-8-1, so theirs no way Sask can get 3rd place.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to an awesome game tomorrow night, the 13th man should be a big factor, but its not like the Stamps haven't delt with that before (so the fans will just have to be louder...), so it should be a close game. Hopefully the Durant (the Riders Most Outstanding Player) can rebound from last week. And also get Cates more touches.

GO RIDERS GO!!!

ROSTER UPDATES:

CALGARY LB Mike Botterill, FB Teyo Johnson and DL Juwan Simpson are in. LB Marc Calixte, R Blaine Kruger and DL Mike Labinjo are out.
Injuries: DL Derek Armstrong(arm), Mike Labinjo(flu), Alain Kashama(ankle), LB Tristan Black(leg), Lemarcus Rowell(knee), Marc Calixte(knee), DB JR Ruffin(knee), Brandon Smith(knee), FB Teyo Johnson(ankle), WR Ken-Yon Rambo(knee-out for season), Ryan Thelwell(achilles-out for season).

SASK - DB Lance Frazier and R Gerran Walker are in. R Chris Jones and DB Carlos Thomas are out.
Injuries: LB Carlos Armour(leg), P Jamie Boreham(neck), DB Eddie Davis(knee), R Weston Dressler(leg), OL Bobby Harris(knee), OL Belton Johnson(quadriceps). DB Chris McKenzie(hamstring), DB Leron Mitchell(groin), DL Jonathan St. Pierre(knee), DL Kevin Scott(leg), OL Wayne Smith(achilees tendon).

************************************************** ************
NOTABLE: Stamps QB Henry Burris 95.9 QB rating percentage vs Riders is his best against any CFL rival. Stamps R Nik Lewis needs 52 yards receiving to reach 1,000 yards for 6 consecutive seasons. R Romby Bryant has hit 100 yards in 3 out 4 games.
RB Joffrey Reynolds is leading the league in rushing and are 103 yards ahead of Winnipeg Fred Reid. Reynolds averaged 124.5 yards against the Riders this year.
Stamps blew the lead the last time the Riders and the Stamps played. They ended up in double OT. The score ended up tied in one of the strangest penalties called (all of them legit) I've ever seen.

************************************************** *************
Stamps need to pressure QB Darian Durant a lot more and make him rush his throw or even not let him see who is throwing. R Andy Fantusz had a great game last time they played against each other. He seems to be wide open all the time then for some reason Stamps defenders cannot take him down faster enough. Stamps don't need a repeat of Fantusz performance. Another suspect for the Stamps last time was the play of the coverage team. Armstead was just having a ball out there running around with the ball. Poor tackling was the other culprit. Stamps need to get the ground game going then take advantage of the size and speed of Teyo Johnson against Riders' LB. Once they established those run-game and short passing, Burris can go after Bryant, Ralph, Copeland and Lewis YAC ability. On defense, our DLine has to step up the way they stepped against the Eskimos and BC. We also need a repeat of QB Darian Durant's performance against Hamilton last week.

GO STAMPS GO!!

Game Time: 5pm at Mosaic Stadium
TV: TSN

My heart says 35-17 Riders, my brain says 37-12 Stamps.

Either way Taylor Field is going to be RIOTOUS.

Ya I get the feeling it'll be a walk either way. Maybe just the way the weekend has gone thus far in the CFL.

Defense didn't come to play clearly. This could be a long night.

Well if our offense struggles early (like it does every game) this is going to be a rout. Our D looks more concerned with being the hero than playing smart.

Not a good start, 7-0 Sask. A missed tackle and a bad penalty made it happen.

2 and out first possession, bummer. Time count on the kick off, Stamps not sharp to start again!

Predictable 2-and-out.

Now a terrible time count violation

If our defense doesn't get a stop here this one is done.

Burris seems to lock on his first option when he struggles. This was clear on the 2nd down play. Not a great early sign when your defense needs a must-stop on the second series.

Well the pressure only gave him time for 1 option so it's hard to blame Burris.

The defense lucks out with a 1st down catch dropped.

There's a cure for early game offensive troubles - go for the home run ball and put yourself in 2nd and 10.

Our team is never ready to play every single week and a lot of that comes down to coaching.

We've been playing man against him with Shannon James so we're not doing much to take him away.
