vacation days from employer

i have worked for the same employer now for 4.5 years. i am still only being given 2 weeks vacation per year. are there any entitlements i have to more vacation days? or is the 2 week minimum all the employer is required to give?

As far as I know there are no requiremkents past the two weeks. Where I work you would have 3 weeks by now, (your 3rd year). We get 4 weeks at 7 years and 5 at 15. No more after that.

I am going into my 9th year, long ways to 5 weeks vacation.

I believe after your fifth year (so in your sixth year) of employment, you are entitled to three weeks' vacation.

Last time I checked the labour standards for Alberta; it was 2 weeks up until 5 years of service, 3 weeks for 5-10 years, and 4 weeks for 10+ years. I think it goes up past the 10 year point, but I don't know those numbers.

Now I'm feeling stoked about my 3 weeks vacation per year (same since I started 2 years ago). After 5 years we get 4 weeks per year and after 10 years we get 5 weeks.

If you live in Alberta, you get 3 weeks after 5 years.

thanks for all the info guys. so what i'm getting is after i complete my 5th year, i am legally entitled to a 3rd week of vacation. if true, the boss will not be happy come june, he's a scrooge.

i found an article that said india, china and canada were the worst for vacation time. nice to know we are considered on par with those countries.

lol, you mustn't know many teachers.

While the summer off is nice, the amount of work that teachers do evenings & weekends throughout the year compared to the amount they get paid is pathetic. I'm pretty sure working 12-14hr days (counting the time at home) equates to those summer months off.

I'm not a teacher... but I can see how hard they work as I'm marrying one.

Back on topic, yes it is pretty weak of Canada to be so stingy with vacation time. Doesn't seem right.

If someone is willing to pay go to school for 6 years and put up with other people's kids bullshinguard then they should get all the vacation they want.

They also can't just take off for a day, a few hours to go to the bank, work from home or take a mental health day without paying someone to replace them.

Don't want to take anyway anything from teachers, but that sounds like my schedule, 6-7 days a week working of till 630, then going home and working till about 10.
