WAP closes gap on PC's in a big way...6% difference now
Riding the wave of Smith's win and then sprinkle on the H1N1 fiasco of the last 10 days, and you have a serious political shift in the province apparently.
Quote:
Across the province, 34 per cent of decided voters say they support the Tories, down from 55 per cent a year ago.
The Wildrose party, under new leader Danielle Smith, is now the solid second choice of Albertans, with 28 per cent support. The Liberals have the support of 20 per cent and the NDP nine. Despite being deregistered by Elections Alberta, the Green Party polled at eight per cent
The numbers suggest the Wildrose Alliance is particularly strong in Calgary, polling 34 per cent among decided voters, compared to 30 per cent for the Tories.

Stunning numbers in calgary.

McCormick thinks the Conservatives will be most worried about their eroding rural support, which has propelled them to victory during their 38-year reign over Alberta.
"The rural ridings have always been the ace in the hole for the Conservatives," McCormick said.
"That's why in some ways the Alliance is their nightmare; it's a right-wing party with strong rural appeal."."
|
Always found it strange how in a province where the vast majority of the population lives in 4-5 cities, it's the rural folks who seem to hold all the power.
Not really sure if Alberta needs more right-winger farmer style politics though....

Its more anti pc than pro wap IMO currently. We still have a long ways to go before an election. I can see wap getting second most seats but anything more is jut wishful thinking at this moment.
What this does is likely increase donations to wap to build their war chest.

WAP closes gap on PCs
When I read that I see "Wireless Application Protocol closes gap on Personal Computers"
Wildrose Alliance really does need to use an acronym that isn't already very common in another sector.
WRA was better, even if Wildrose is one word.

Danielle Smith is an impressive woman.
It shouldn't matter that she's a beautiful specimen of womanhood but, let's face it, it does matter and she's got about 18 times more brains than Stelmach, which should be the real story.
I've seen some commentary that Smith is getting some buzz in the USA where she's described as a much, much brighter Sarah Palin.
How right wing do you want to go for a looker though?

That gigantic bribe Klein gave me might not be enough for me to vote PC next time.

The timing is the biggest issue for the WAP. If the election were to happen now, there is enough happening that another classic Alberta revolution could have been in the cards.
Stelmach and the Tories are incredibly fortunate that they have two years before they have to answer to the people again. In two years, Swine Flu paranoia will be a historical story, and the economy will be recovering. But right now, these numbers could lead to some panic decisions by the PCs. Very interesting given the leadership review is so close.

Is she really a looker though?
I guess with all the 50+ men in politics any chick tends to get boosted up a lot based on the context in which they are seen but she is certainly not a looker by any sense of the word in my view.
Same thing happened with Stronich and Dalla.

You're totally right. I found this candid photo of Smith without aging politicians beside her.

Times are tough in Ottawa and Edmonton if Stronach and Smith are considered "lookers".
Dhalla is nice though.

I was thinking the same thing. She's not ugly by any means, but I don't see as a sex pot by any stretch of the imagination.

I think the PCs have time on their side. They'll throw a few bones our way in election year and people will give them a mandate.

Hmm, now I have my choice of far-right parties.
Here's hoping by splitting the right vote the libs can get some more traction and get going again in this province.

Yup, they'll buy votes again with rebate checks of some kind. Man, that was shameful.
