I should sue for the weekly mental anguish of NOT winning...

The chances of winning 5 times in 5 years? It doesn't happen.

The real question is, if you've won the lottery four times why are you still buying hundreds of lotto tickets each week?

I'd be living in some warm climate playing golf 12 months of the year.

Didn't he take several months before he submitted his winning ticket too? He should sue himself for mental anguish and lost interest!

No kidding. Penthouse suite in the Calgary area for old times sake but I'd be owning some mansion in some tropical place for the majority of the time

With that kind of money, I'd buy the entire city of Edmonton just to burn it down. With the remaining 16.5 mil, I'd buy a house in the Caribbean.

Maybe living in Airdrie is the true cause of his mental anguish.

They were talking about this guy on 77 the other day,

Apparently the suit is because the WCLC, while holding the money, didn't place the 17 Mil. into an interest bearing account. Because the WCLC has had the funds since sept. 08, it's estimated at a loss of around 60 -70K.

Whatever!!!,,,,This Doosh should shut up!, take the money and run!

BTW: They said he still plans to keep buying lottery tickets.

.......He probably dropped a few K on the big Fat Lotto Max!!

The original story had him either knowing or being a relative of a kiosk owner.

If he reads the fine print on the ticket WCLC can hold the ticket if they suspect there to be an issue with it. 5 winnings in a short time is cause I would say. Good luck in court buddy.

No way the loss is that high.
According to the article, the draw was in January (I'm assuming 09 cause it doesn't say) so regarding the September date, someone's wrong here. Also, I don't know about the Super 7, but don't most lotteries either offer a much smaller lump sum payment or a payment plan for the full amount over several years? So the full 17 million wouldn't be earning him interest anyway. Anyone here that has won the Super 7 jackpot care to clarify how their payouts work?

Either way, its a crying shame what they're doing to this poor, unfortunate soul. I suggest we take up a collection to help this guy out.

It would have to be 09 as there is a 365 day max to claim the ticket.

Another red flag will be when the relative moves into a mansion too.

Yes!,,,Someone is Certainly wrong here!

It wouldn't be the first time two different media sources reported vastly different details (dates, stats. etc.)

What I heard was the ticket was purchased in Sept. 08 and Claimed in Feb. 09 (long before the 1 year claim deadline).

Also, The "Lump Sum" issue comes into play for those "Set for Life" tickets. $1000 a week for 25 years or a smaller one time payment.

I'm pretty sure all of Canadas major lotteries pay out the entire "Lump Sum" to the winner(s) in one single payment.

Nope, that's pretty much just in the states. The lotteries in Canada work differently, so if you win $17 million, you get a cheque for $17 Million right away.

Darn, beaten by the simu-post.

Here is an interview in today's Sun with the winner. Still seems fishy to me.
Quote:
Q: How do you respond to suspicious cynics who say it's impossible for anyone to have had such good luck?
A: It is ridiculous for some people to suggest I have a formula for doing this. I am not a mathematician, I am not a computer expert. If I had a formula I would share it with those close to me, I would share with desperate people playing lotto every now and then who can't win. And if somebody says 'he's got something to help him to win' -- man, man, man, they are going too far.
