This movie is going to look absolutely amazing in IMAX 3D... should be quite a ride. Only 6 weeks left until release.

I don't really understand the hype around this movie.
The animation/alines look kind of cheesey to me. Heck the story doesn't even seem like it's anything real ground breaking.

God I hope this lives up to its hype. JC is hands down one of the most influential directors not just of our time, but in the whole scope of film making.
This looks like his most ambitious project to date and I for one have never been more excited to see a film. Ever.

That new trailer finally helped my figure out WTF is up with this movie. The teaser from a couple of months ago did nothing whatsoever for me, but now I'm into it. Looks like a good one!
I still haven't ever seen a movie in 3D in the past decade. Maybe I'll pop my cherry with this one.

The story, from whats been seen in the trailers anyway, isnt groundbreaking. But it has the built in Cameron appeal and anyone who has ever played a first person shooter and/or liked something like Star Wars is going to see this presumably. So that's a fair few million.
Dont think this can be anything less than big fun for genre fans.
Anyone see the 16 min 3D preview? 3D can make me pretty queasy (yeah im a 3D pansy, though UP was fine). Case in point the 'panther' chase in the jungle. Was crap your pants awesome though, but I remember thinking afterwards that I would consider not seeing it in 3D the first time for a few reasons. Will probably toss a coin on the day.

Well... the plot is based on the Pocahontas story (good guy on a bad team invades a good place, falls for a good girl, fights back against his original bad side, etc.). So no, the story is not ground-breaking... I don't think it was meant to be.

I wasn't impressed by the original preview, and now hearing that it's going to be in 3D I'm even less impressed.
3D is to movies what autotune is the music. Quit with the gimmicks, and make a good film!

That's pretty much how I feel. Special effects are nice, but they aren't the be all end all of a good movie.
Would this movie be a cool visual experience? Probably, but I don't think that's worth sitting through 2 hours of a crappy movie just to see.
James Cameron has dome some great special effects work, but the the ones that people remember are the ones that also have the great stories, like the Terminator Movies, or the Abyss. Why waste such a great visual experience on such an uninspired plot?

You mean compared to Titanic, with the ground breaking storyline of poor boy falls in love with rich girl with obnoxious fiance? Yet people went to see it in droves. Most people don't want ground breaking, they want familiar feel-good stories.

Yup, and you'll notice that I left Titanic off of my (admitedly) short list of Cameron movies with a good story.
I'm not saying I don't think this movie is going to make a ton of money, I just don't understand the hype.
Titanic was a crappy love story set on/in a famous/romanticised point in history, and it starred Leo, so just about every woman in the world was gonna go see it and bring along their boyfriend or husband, so it made a billion dollars...give or take.
With this movie, though, it's a special effects masterpiece (kind of like T2) except with a crappy story line that is probably closer to Titanic. So sure, it's got the effects and space angle to pull in the usual effects driven crowd, and I guess it has the crappy story to bring in the chicks, so some will see it as the best of both worlds and it'll make a ton of money.
I on the other hand, am inclined to think that it'll be a mediocre story that gets lost/muddled up in the push for great effects OR a bunch of great effects that get wasted on a mediocre plot, that'll make it's money based on the marketing/hype surrounding it instead of the substance of the film.

Zoe Saldana = yummy
I can't think of a Cameron flic that was bad, Titantic might have been soppy but the mere scope of how he filmed it made it epic non the less.

As far as big set, big budget flicks go, I don't think a movie will ever be as technically sounds as Titanic was. Sure, the love story and Leo in his pretty boy phase(any issue of Teen beat or Tuiger Beat or whatever had him on the cover) kind of over shadowed the movie. Having said that, it was truly a massive achievement and was well deseving off all the Oscars it got. I can watch that movie anytime. Nothing gets to me more than seeing the mother lying in bed with her kids as the water level is rising.

In Cameron's defence here, he filmed this thing a couple years ago with the intention of having it in 3D. But between his filming of Avatar, it seems every 1 out of 10 movies is now in 3D. It's too bad that goofy slasher movies have taken the 3D element and turned into a huge gimmick. If Avatar was the first to use 3D( I know not the first ever, but the first in a long time), then your sentiment would be less popular.
I'm willing to give Cameron the benefit of any doubt and will definitely be seeing this with 3D glasses on first day in the IMAX. It's gonna be stunning! I can't wait.

It being a 3d movie doesn't necessarily mean it can't stand on its own with out the benefit of 3d. IMO this looks like one of the few movies that may be able to do just that.

The animation looks worse then Star Wars Ep 1 and 3D in its current form will not help this movie. The only saving grace this movie could have is a great story.... and that would be shocking.

Hahaha, it makes me laugh how everyone's commenting on the CGI from a video that's about 400px wide.
Seriously, they are using revolutionary proprietary tools to make the faces mimic human emotions, subtle ticks, etc. This movie will completely change CGI forever. People on here don't realise what this is yet.

Doesn't change the fact that they kind of remind me of big blue versions of Jar Jar Binks.
