Thumbs up Have you driven a Ford lately?

Ford reports a nearly $1 billion profit

Quote:
The only major U.S. automaker not to file for bankruptcy this year earned $997 million, or 29 cents a share, compared to a loss of $161 million, or 7 cents a share on that basis a year earlier.

Excluding special items, Ford reported a profit of $873 million, or 26 cents a share, in the period. Analysts had been forecasting a loss of 12 cents a share for the quarter on this basis. Ford said it was the first pre-tax operating profit since the start of 2008.

We really like our 2006 Focus, and the new Fusions are really nice as well. I'll have no issues at all purchasing another Ford when my Cavalier dies.

How about that new Taurus SHO? 365 HP V6. Incredible. Although it's well into the 50 grand range.

Yeah that is a cool car but as you say a bit pricey. Actually a lot pricey.

I drove a 2010 Mustang and really liked everything about it. Nice to see the quality of the plastics have improved in recent years.

We have a 2005 Escape and love it. Almost 90K miles on it and the only thing we've had to do is change the brakes, tires and battery. The best vehicle I have ever owned was my '04 F-150. Dreamy.

I will never stray to another American company for sure and Ford's ability to run their business without tax payer help...and their willingness to do so when the gov't was offering them free money....helps me maintain my loyalty.

I have rented an escape a few times. They are quite nice for a crossover.

I may look at Ford again one day. I had an Explorer and the wife had an Escape a few years ago and we both hated them. Now that we have both gone the import way we clearly can see how badly Ford cut corners as far as quality and performance went.

I have heard a few times now that Ford is comparing themselves to Toyota now as far as quality. The SHO sounds like a great car.

If Ford continues to produce cars who's designs are based on their European models, then I think they will definitely be able to keep the success going. They are clearly the most forward-thinking of the American cars, and need to ensure the quality improvements continue. There is still a little too much plastic in the cars for my taste, but out of the 3, the are definitely the only ones who I would remotely consider buying.

Didn't Ford mortgage their plants before the bottom feel out or something?

My next will be a ford. My last two cars have been GM and Jeep (Chrysler) time to try a Ford and do my part to keep our auto makers alive. Too many people just follow there father's advice and dismiss one automaker over another, I am going to come up with my own allegiance to a N. American auto maker.

I own 2007 Escape. Initially I really didn't want an American car, I was listening to all the haters without doing my own research. After looking at JD powers overall quality rating I was surprised to see how high Ford really was... way higher than say Subaru and Volvo.

At the end of the day the vehicle was perfect for our lifestyle and the price couldn't be beat. Almost three years later I love my Escapse and highly recommend them if that's the type of vehicle your in the market for.

I agree with Table 5... Ford is certainly the most forward thinking American car manufacturer and obviously that is starting to pay off. Unfortunately some other American companies thought that fridges in the glove box was forward thinking.

I think the edge is the crossover.

I've been a ford guy since i've been driving...'96 F150, '04 Escape.

I inherited my Ford-ness from my parents.

I love the Edge, want to see a Microsoft product that works, use Sync.

I have similar feelings, Ford is the only Big 3 car maker I would look at for my next purchase.

Ford has definitely done a good job of making themselves a viable company. And have done so with some pretty well placed vehicles.

The Escape is a great small SUV that I think a lot of people have come around to as it is small but still ans SUV, so it gets the soccer moms who don't want something huge.

They've got a freat handle on the semi luxury/sports car angle with the Mustang, which I think they've done a great job with in the last few years.

And of course they pretty much are the workhorse of work trucks. People can go on all they like about how GMC or Dodges, are better trucks, or how Tundras are great (I myself drive a Tacoma, so I'm not being a homer), but the fact of the matter is, the F series trucks are pretty much the weapon of choice for anyone who has a job where they are on crappy/non-existant roads a lot. That's pretty much why every 5000 person oil town in Alberta has a Ford dealership.

I'm glad there is at least one American car company who can run their business half decently. Let's just hope they can keep it up for the long haul.

Btw, is that just the perfect little truck or what? My dad has one of those (basic manual, power nothing) and I love how simple and indesctrutible that thing is.

Yeah, I've got pretty much the top of the line one and I absolutely love it.
I can't wait to go hunting in a few weeks, and get it off road a little bit.

I previously drove a Colorado and it was a decent little truck, but when I went to get a new truck, the cost to upgrade to the Tacoma was so small compared to how much better of a truck was getting, that the decision was pretty simple. Plus I didn't have to deal with the guys at GM saying things like "We've got 0% financing right now, but if you pay cash we'll knock a whole bunch off the price". It worked out to be about 6% financing, and when I pointed this out to the guy he was adamant that it wasn't a financing fee, it was a "Cash incentive". Thanks for assuming I'm ######ed.

I almost bought an F250 in '07 when I bought my GMC 2500. I just heard a lot of bad things about the 6.0 Liter diesel engine they were selling at the time. Ford engines are typically bullet proof but the diesels are built by international and they were having too many problems with injectors ect.
