Even though I live in West Springs, I am not opposed to using the Ring Road to get the airport, just book it through Springbank, 5-10 minutes later I am on Stoney Trail. 25 minutes or so, I should be at the airport.
I thought I heard that only Deerfoot to 17th would be opening this afternoon, and not Deerfoot to Centre until 2 weeks from now. Perhaps they were wrong.
The road includes 12 interchanges, one flyover and three signalized intersections that will be replaced by interchanges by 2013.
That is just so stupid. They did the same thing in Edmonton, and it's been a complete gong show. The whole point of this is to try to achieve free flowing traffic. The signals are going to screw it up terribly.

How much you wanna bet that they don't get done by 2013, just like the lights on south deerfoot that were there for 20 years

There will definitely be some good fatalities at Stoney and Centre. I'm not sure how they'll leave the speeds...but a road people are usually doing 120 on and goes down to probably 80 for lights and than back to people doing 120 is just ridiculous.
And the thing that also concerns about me about Stoney right now isn't necessarily the volume (though that may change now that the whole north portion is open, but when people excessively speed on it. I've heard of police lasering people pretty much daily in the 150+ range (highest I've heard was in the 170's)...and I've been lucky enough to drive the NE leg already and there's some huge straight stretches.

Totally agree. I remember traversing Anthony Henday and thinking, my this is nice, until BAM! Traffic lights, and rush hour traffic backed up because of those lights. I thought "ha ha, stupid Edmonton" back then, but now Stoney Trail has the exact same thing.

I know everyone is disappointed about the lights, but seriously, is it that big of a deal?
The road got done opened much sooner because of the decision to leave those lights in, and now instead of having to go through 20 sets of lights (I don't know the real number) on a 2 lane road to get through Calgary, you can now do it with 3 sets of lights on a road that is for the most part 3 lanes wide.
Seems a lot better to me. Stoney trail may not be perfect, but a lot of congestion just got lifted off of 16th ave and other streets.
Hell, when I want to leave town going East now, this road will save me at least 20 minutes.
