Yeah, most mind-blowing thing on this thread so far.

So how does it work? Your mind sees the grey building around the dot reverse in shade, recognizes the shades reversed on the periphery, and just assumes that the hues have reversed as well?

The intial image saturates your Blue cone photoreceptors.... leaving only the red and green ones to detect light when the image switches. Once your blue cones recover the balance is restored.

It only works with the peripheral vision as there is a higher concentration of blue cones in the periphery compared to the center.

This is mostly true. Europeans refered to all of of south and east Asia as Indus, not just India. Columbus was actually looking for Japan. The in dios thing is BS. In is not a word in Spanish.

Some other mind blowers:
The phrase, the whole nine yards comes from plane gunners because the length of a chain of ammo was nine yards and they would put the whole nine yards into the enemy.

The Expos logo is actually a large m, small e, small b for Monteal Expos Baseball.

I always have to turn down my volume looking at those things, in fear of a ghost or something popping out screaming.

Stare at the three vertical dots for 30 seconds and look at a white wall or stare at a piece of white paper.

There's 12 in the first frame, and then 13 when it changes.

Follow the movement of the rotating pink dot with your eyes and the dots will remain only one color, pink. But if you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot will turn green.

I love having my mind blown by finding out how easy it is to fool the mind.
