How come it affects people with asthma like that? I have asthma myself, although it is exercised induced.

So, how would you feel if your mother couldn't get vacinated because people who weren't personally high risk flooded the clinics first?

What's your deal? I don't get what your motive is here. What are you trying to prove? What kind of answer do you expect here? The guy is getting the shot to protect his family, what is the problem? Page after page you keep flogging people in a lame attempt to justify your decision not to get the vaccination. Just let it go.

I said earlier in this thread that I *might* have it, but I'm not sure. On and off I have the chills, but I haven't had much in the way of a fever. I've got a bit of a sore throat, but I'm able to swallow with minimal discomfort... but a sore throat isn't a primary symptom of H1N1. I HAD a massive headache, but then I discovered I had left-over codeine in my medical cabinet - no more headache. So the symptoms sorta fit and sorta don't fit. What makes me doubt that it's H1N1 even more is that those at work who HAVE had it said it knocked them out for a week and they didn't have the energy to do anything but lie in bed. I've gone for a walk (through the woods, not in public), did some yardwork and cleaned the garage.
Now the question becomes: Once I'm feeling better, do I still get the vaccine? I'm leaning towards yes since I don't know one way or the other if this is H1N1. This could just be a normal flu or a cold.

This is a dog eat dog world. If you want the shot go get it but don't expect me to give a rats behind whether someone i don't know is high risk or not. Also, how do you know that someone isn't high risk? Do you go around asking?
A 13 year old healthy hockey player collapsed and died unexpectidely last week from H1N1. I think we are all vulverable and should have access to the shot whether we are healthy, high risk or whatever the case may be.

I got the shot in Tuesday. I am spooked by this thing since five people I know got H1N1 and two are currently in ICU, and one on a resperator. My mother has a very weak immune system, and I can't risk her getting it, she would likely end up in the ICU as well. Since I visit her once or twice a week, I figured it would be prudent.
Now I don't have huge vaccine experience since this is the first I've had in about 13 years but man, did that shot kick me in the ass. For two days I was:
- unexplicable confusion (almost like just before getting drunk).
- chronically tired.
- massive headache
- had that "coming down with a bad cold/flu feeling" stiffness / aches
- and he localised area in my shoulder was really 'hard' and very, very sore. Like when a buddy slugs you in the shoulder.
I got home from work on Wednesday (had the shot on Tues) went to bed at 9, and slept until 4:30 the next afternoon. I have never been out that long in my life. Good thing I had Thursday off.
All I can say, whatever is in this thing, it is potent, and be prepared for the side effects if you get it. Other people I know are reporting similar things, especially the headache / malaise / confusion.
Just thought those who haven't gone yet would like some feedback forewarning. You may want to take a day off after you get it.

EVERYONE that I know that got it on Monday (approx) 10 people are all fine and had ZERO to NO side effects!

First of all, I didn't say I was absolutely not getting the vaccine. I said I was still unsure.
I just took exception to be notions being passed around that people who don't get it are essentially killing people and spreading a plague on society. So I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of calling one group of people socially irresponsible for waiting or not getting the vaccine, while so many of the people who are getting it are causing logistical problems for the people who need it the most.
Whatever. Go get the vaccine, but don't claim a moral high ground over people that don't.

Was at the Oval t 6:45 AM to get my 2 1/2 y/o the shot and just arrived home in Tuscany. (now 1:30)
7 1/2 hour wait with 10, 90+ year olds behind me that smelled like rice and piss for over 7 HOURS!!! (not to mention they only had 2 people in line at 6:30 AM and by 10AM their group had 12!!!)
The thing is that even though there were only 400 ahead of me at 6AM, they ALL brought in 10 family members at 10AM !!!!! What a system they have running!

I wasn't going to be the one to say it.
But, I've heard the same thing about the seasonal flu vaccine last year and the every year past. "I don't get the vaccine because I end up calling in sick". Really, if ones immune system can't fight off a deadened virus, how is it ever supposed to fight off the real thing? Maybe there is something deeper wrong that one should have their doctor investigate?

Don't usually play the internet tough guy role, but feel free to come by my place of work, or any other venue and say that to my face. I guarantee you would not. And if you did, it would obviously be because you are tired of living. I can give you a few personal references from this board who can vouch for that fact.
Feel free to to PM me if interested, or if you have the balls.

I come on here to let people know what I went through after getting a vaccination simply because it was relevant to the topic. I am a healthy 35 year old male 6'1" 220 lbs, and it knocked me on my ass. Just thought some would like to know what they may go through.
And then I get childless vag references?
I know it is very easy for you guys to sit back there and sling backhanded insults behind your computer screen, but I am saying, you would never have the guts to do it to my face. I make it a habit to not say crap on the internet I would otherwise never say in person.
