Robert Gallery is a very good guard... but he was drafted as a bookend OT. That failed. He's a bust (or a semi-bust as he's found use in another position). I think just because it's been 8 games, Heyward-Bey needs judgment reserved (although I thought it was hilarious that Crabtree came into the league after holding out for a few months and in one game reached the same levels as Bey who had been in camp since day 1).

In total, I don't disagree. When you draft 5 busts or semi-busts in 6 years, you're going to keep drafting in the top 10 overall. You're going to spend a lot of money on these busts and the cycle is going to continue.

For years the Bengals did it and now the Raiders and Browns perfected it.

This is one of the major reasons I am an NFL Fan free agent after 17+ years as a Raiders fan...

You could argue that a lot of the problems with the Raiders high draft picks being busts is that they were poor picks to begin with. When a senile old man is calling the shots, you can't expect much success.

That's pretty much why I labelled him a bust, he was supposed to be a can't miss franchise tackle. And he failed miserably at that. Glad to see he's settled into the guard position nicely, even while being paid like a franchise tackle.

I'd love to reserve judgment, but I just think no matter WHAT he does in his career he will be a bust. His name will forever be intertwined with Crabtree. Maybe this kid can do some damage with a REAL QB behind center. But I see this kid as the second coming of Troy Williamson, who is a huge, colossal bust.

Ya, Troy Williamson... who was selected with the pick that came from the Raiders in the Moss deal. You see, the Raiders pollute draft picks even when they are traded.

I can't believe how good it feels to have cut ties with that franchise. Spent money on a season's worth of season tickets, bought a couple jerseys, and other such junk... now I'm free. The only problem is that when you live in the area, it's hard to make a connection with another team when you've been against everyone for 17+ years. However, the more I think about it, the more I can see myself cheering for the Steelers. They are run pretty much the opposite way as the Raiders, very similar to the Flames and are a stable organization...

Another factor is that some of these original AFL owners are getting up there in age and are getting to their last shot to win something. Guys like Al Davis, Bud Adams, Ralph Wilson maybe stepping in and not neccessarily making the right football move.

I think Lamar Hunts health in his later years affected the Chiefs too. 4 years ago that team had clearly aged out and wasn't going to win anymore but they tried to push it for a couple more years. Now they're paying for it.

That was all Carl Peterson. Unless you mean Carl Peterson was pushing it to try and win the Super Bowl for Lamar. Lamar was an owner that believed in hiring someone to do a job and letting them do it. On one hand it made Lamar a great owner. On the other hand it could hurt the Chiefs at times because he would let his GM have multiple bad seasons before he would fire them (see Jack Steadman in the 70's & 80's, and Carl Peterson who we will never know if Lamar would have fired or not).

I would love to see Ralph Wilson get a Super Bowl trophy. Unfortunately it probably won't happen in his life time. I think at his induction into the Hall of Fame he was 92. He has had the Bills for 50 years and has not won the big prize despite getting agonizingly close 4 times (Field goal away the first time).

Holy Cow man, you can't give up that easily. Al Davis can't live forever.

I should clarify and say that I'm taking a sabbatical until (if?) Al Davis dies.

Agreed. You can't jump ship. Raiders have been a joke for 7 years now but its not like you're the Browns. You guys were in the Super Bowl this decade already! I've been a Saints fan since '93, and there's been some leeeeean years in that time. The fact they've been in the league since '67 and I actually witnessed their first ever play-off win('00) is embarassing in itself.

But I decided awhile ago that I chose this horse, and aside from a franchise relocation, I'm going down with the ship. Never give up man! Skeletor doesn't look like he has much shelf-life left.

Skeletor will live forever!

But I agree, don't jump ship from a few lean years. I mean as Flames fans we should know after the BS we put up with in the 90's. My Chiefs have 2 fricken playoff appearances in the last 12 years, only Detroit, Cincinatti, Houston and Cleveland have been more inept IIRC, and Houston and Cinci are good bets to make the playoffs this year not to mention Houston's shorter term of existance. Still I'll stick with the team even though I won't get to thump my chest like a Colts fan or Steelers fan, or Patriots fan. Just have to hope that one day I'll get mine and I'll get to gloat a bit.

Syl, it once really sucked to be a Pats fan, too. Just wait until they draft that elite QB, then it all changes.

I say jump! Bill Simmons' rule for leaving a team:

The owner of your favorite team treated his fans so egregiously over the years that you couldn't take it anymore -- you would rather not follow them at all then support a franchise with this owner in charge. Just for the record, I reached this point with the Boston Bruins about six years ago. When it happens, you have two options: You can either renounce that team and pick someone else, or you can pretend they're dead, like you're a grieving widow.

That is the key, becuase I like the packs chances better. They had Colledge at LT who sucks at LT and got absolutly detroyed becuase he's never looked good at LT. Barbe was only a few games in and they were banged up. Either Clifton, normally LT will start, or TJ Lang who looked 10 times better against Allen than Colledge. Barbe has also come along way but now they also have Mark Tauscher who they say is good to go and has can be inserted if Barbe struggles. Snap count has alot to do with it.
I'm biased as a huge Pack fan but I like their chances. They were right in that first game and arguable could have won if donald lee doens't drop the ball in the end zone. Their D is playing much better since, and they have key players back for this game they didn't have in that game. Plus they are at home.

Tom Cable's life just got even more miserable...as seen on ESPN OTL this morning.

Quote:
Two women, including his former wife and a recent girlfriend, say that Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable has a history of violent behavior toward women.

In separate interviews with ESPN's "Outside the Lines", Sandy Cable and Marie Lutz say that Cable hit them during relationships dating back more than 20 years.

What was I saying about the Giants being over rated earlier? I hope Philly kills them today to prove how over rated they really have been. They got fat beating up on the leagues worst teams. Their only tough win is the game in Dallas.

Seahawks are bad. Terrible display of tackling on Dallas' first TD. Eagles looking great today.

Vintage McNabb there. Play breaks down and he picks up the first down himself.

It's funny...i rarely get "excited"/"anxious" or whatever for games. In fact the last time i was on edge was game 7 of 04.

Today however...man, just jacked about the Packer/Favre return stuff. Just a gut feeling but IMO the packers put one on the Vikes which launches them into the next level of teams. Unfortunately the opposite could be true as well...the Vikes win and demoralize them which sends them into a tailspin.

I see the Blues are smoking the Wings 10-2 however.
