Any place you'd deploy a blade, you'd be better served scaling up and virtualizing workloads, in my opinion. I could see blades being useful if you had multiple clients though that each wanted their own virtual server hosts, or dedicated boxes. But you are correct when you say vendors over-push them.

Actually the most common place I would put blades in are HPCC's and virtualization is pretty useless in that situation.

I usually like to deploy my blades in the drawer just to the right of the forks.

Touche, they make sense there too. Wasn't thinking outside the box enough.

Okay last time asking this question...

Can any Mac vets tell me if the stock that became dated last week (ie a Macbook Pro that they were selling in September) would be cheaper now that they have the new ones?

Like when the 2010 model cars were coming in, do they reduce the prices on the 2009 to get rid of them. Does that happen with Macs?

I dunno if this helps or not, but this is where old Macs go to die...

Thanks, but I'm looking for something that's never been out of the box. Just last year's/month's model that didn't sell before the newer, fancier ones came out.

Something that is for all intents and purposes brand new, but they don't want on the shelves taking up space that the new ones are supposed to have.

Your can try places like Future Shop or Best Buy. They don't usually lower the price at all on old stock (they sell it to customers and hope they don't realize newer versions have come out), but if you tell the guy that you know it's old and you're willing to buy it if he gives you a discount (or else you'll buy a new one from Apple Store), they might cave.

I honestly have no idea what Apple does with brand-new-in-the-box older models though. Perhaps some of our more experience Mac guys can offer better insight.

Actually, have you tried just calling the online Apple store? 1-800-692-7753

I would just check with your nearest apple store. They had a few of the previous gen. 24" iMac's in the back selling for $1299 US here in California. Just had to ask one of the employees.

I thought I saw some pretty significant price cuts at London Drugs on their Mac hardware post-new-hardware-announcement, but I don't know if their regular price is any good, so I don't know if the discount amounts to much real-world.
