Inspiring Quotes
We all came to CalgaryPuck for the same reason, the Calgary Flames. However, a lot of the regular posters here have stuck around for what I feel is a very different reason; the people in this community keep them here.
I've read so many inspiring stories on this site and some posters here without knowing it have changed the way I think about certain aspects of life.
I'd just like to have a place for people to share things they've seen or read, either on this site or not, that have impacted them in some meaningful way. It can be sports-related, or not.
I'd prefer if the quotes weren't just quick humorous one-liners, although those can be great too, but I am hoping for something a little more insightful in this thread.
As for me, this post by firebug was one of the most touching things I've ever read, anywhere.

"If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you." Oscar Wilde
"Believe you can, believe you can't; either way, you're right." Henry Ford
Ichiro On playing in Cleveland: "To tell the truth, I'm not excited to go to Cleveland, but we have to. If I ever saw myself saying I'm excited going to Cleveland, I'd punch myself in the face, because I'm lying."
I think these sum it up.
Have fun, Work hard, Have integrity.

It looks like this thread is filled with good intention and integrity, thus is not the place for off colour, one liners. I better stay out and limit my contribution to this.

From the immortal Bill Pullman and the historically and scientifically accurate Independence Day...
"Good morning. In less than one hour planes from here and all around the world will launch the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind...
Mankind. The word has new meaning for all of us now. We are reminded not of our petty differences but of our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today, July the Fourth, we will once again fight for our freedom. Not from tyranny, persecution or oppression. But from annihilation.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist. From this day on, the fourth day of July will no longer be remembered as an American holiday but as the day that all of mankind declared we will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish without a fight. We're going to live on. We're going to survive...Today is our Independence Day! "

Live your life how you want to be seen, not how others want to see you. Grandpa MYK 72 hours before he died of cancer.

My favorite EPL team Tottenham has a legendary manager named Bill Nicholson who had a couple classics:
"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."
"Any player coming to Spurs whether he's a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing."

Mr. Lahey: Who in this park, or even in the whole world, doesn't have problems? Who doesn't have a drink too many times once in a while and maybe even winds up passed out in their own driveway, pissing themselves? Who doesn't drink too much sometimes or who doesn't have a puff from time to time? And who doesn't have problems with the people they love? This is our home. This is our community.

One of the most inspirational quotes I have found for my self, which I stumbled upon in the movie The Art of Travel...
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
This quote alone has convinced me to do things I would have not thought of doing, nor considered doing.
