Really?! I completely believe you, but I can't recall ever seeing a .com disc go for more than a .ca disc. I'll have to look a little closer.
edit: ok I hate my job enough today that I did a test of my own. I compared 9 movies off the top of my head and found that (after conversion to cdn $) the .com movies were cheaper by $22 in total. Of course you have to factor in both shipping costs from the USA and the added time it takes to reach you. The canadian store is much cheaper than I remember it being.
That being said there was a great range in prices for some movies in my list. For instance, The Dark Knight is only $4 cheaper in the states, Batman Begins is actually $2 more expenisive in the states, but my other movies (casino royale, wall e, ironman, the incredible hulk, transformers and surfs up) were all about $10 - $12 cheaper in the states. Of course after conversion to canadian dollars this difference is more like $3 per movie.
All in all I think you're right ... perhaps I'm still living in a fantasy world where the canadian dollar is stronger.
And ya ... Planet Earth is pretty much the most beautiful thing ever recorded. It pains me that Blue Planet was a little too old to be filmed in the same way.
