OK, so all the info I have read points to me having this. My previously dry cough is now a little mucous-y. From what I understand, that is a good thing because the mucous means my body is trying to fight it off.

I really don't feel too bad. But hearing the story of that 13 year old from T.O freaks me out a little- apparently he went from mild symptoms to collapsing quickly. I am confused as to what signs would indicate I need to go to the hospital (if it gets that bad).

Shortness of breath is the big sign that you need to go to a hospital, or if you start to get better then it comes back worse than before. Otherwise it's best to stay home if you think you might have influenza.

Here's a link to some straight forward advice on what to do if you have the Flu. It contains a list of symptoms that should be addressed immediately. Sadly the prevention info comes to late for me as I have been battling a high fever for several days now. I'll be seeing a doctor if it persits or gets worse

I dunno, seems like heresay. There are 10 million healthy people in Europe that have been vaccinated and the base of the vaccine has been around for many years. The adjuvant additive bothered me a little at first because I thought there was a lack of research, but the more I looked into it and the more health professionals I talked to, the faster I realized that there was really no reason to be concerned.

However, there is a lot of BS information out there. Just go read the comment section on any of our local papers. It's really mind-blowing reading some people opinions on this thing.

well so far it hasn't mutated and the vaccine is a perfect match apparently.

also if they actually didn't think this was serious governments wouldn't be spending Billions on it to give out free shots.

Unless you're the Germans then you give the public one and yourselves a different one.

Quote:
Just a week after it emerged that the German armed forces was getting a different kind of A/H1N1 vaccine to the general population, Der Spiegel magazine reports that the government will also get special treatment.

The general population will be offered the GlaxoSmithKline vaccine, called Pandemrix, which contains a new booster element, or adjuvant, as well as a preservative containing mercury.

Controversy has grown around the rapid licensing of the GSK vaccine – and a similar one being made by Novartis. Critics said not enough testing had been conducted before European licensing authorities rushed an approval.

Chancellor Angela Merkel, her cabinet members and ministry civil servants as well as those working for other agencies will get Celvapan, produced by US firm Baxter, which does not have the adjuvant or the preservative, according to Der Spiegel.

From the same article:

Quote:
Meanwhile some medical associations are advising their members not to administer the new vaccine. President of the German Association of General and Family Medicine, Michael Kochen, has called on German general doctors not to give it to patients. “The risks outweigh the benefits,” he said.

Wolfram Hartmann, president of the Association of Paediatricians, accused the government of making false scientific statements. He said children under the age of three should not be given the shots.

Just a question... I'm afraid of needles and would rather not have to SEE them giving it to me. Will they stick it in my ass cheek if I request it?

Depends on the sexuality and gender of the nurse.

How about this:

Everyone who gets the vaccine gets a little card/armband/tattoo/RFID implant saying they got the vaccine.

And in a month (or whatever suitable length of time) anyone who doesn't have that little card/armband/tattoo/RFID implant thing trying to use the health care system to be treated for H1N1 can be given a body bag and can wait quietly in the morgue...

I guess what I am saying is that although I will be sad for those who get sick when they deliberately avoided getting the vaccine, but don't clog up the health care system...

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem...

Actually I said something similiar to my brother. He is not going to get the shot. So I told him. If you get H1N1 please do not bitch and complain if you can't get to a doctor because the emergency rooms a packed with other people like him who did not get the H1N1 shot.

I told him he can't be against the government program for the H1N1 shot and then turn around later and bitch about the government not haveing enough resources to manage any out break that may occur.

He didn't have an answer for me. lol

Jiri started a thread about calling people names like stupid or idiot so I'm going to have to refrain from responding to this post. Other than this sentence that clearly shows what I want to say but can't otherwise I'll get an infraction.

Deal! But that rule has to apply to anyone who drinks, smoke, doesn't use sun screen, doesn't exercise, are fat, etc.

So basically if you don't take good care of yourself you can't use the health care system. Make sense, right?

Frankly you just called me an idiot - you just used about 40 more words to do it. Whatever, lets move on. What part of my post don't you like? The body bag comment - probably a little melodramatic, maybe I should have said - just send people home that have gotten really sick with H1N1 and that elected to not get the shot (but effectively you are possibly sending them home to die). And I would hope it is pretty obvious that none of that would be practical anyway, so let me ask the question a different way:

If you don't get the H1N1 shot, and end up getting sick, do you expect to use the public health system?
