Default Another (I met) Fleury!....thread

Too bad!.....I gotta tell this story because IMHO, It's too cool!

Long story short, My Daughter & I were the very last in line at the Chapters Fleury book signing.

When we finally got to the table where Fleury was sitting,
I said to Fleury, "You must be glad to see us!" (because we were the end of the line) Fleury stood up and said "There's gotta be a prize for this!"

Anyway, after signing our book, He told one of his people ..."I want a picture with these two and I want it sent to them". (They got my E-mail address after).......

He wrapped his arms around me and my Daughter, and they took a couple pics. As the photo thing was done, Theo still had his arm around my Daughter, I saw and heard him say to my little girl "follow your dreams, you can do anything"

I'm so glad I could give my Daughter this opportunity of meeting the man I have been telling her about for so many years.

I am so sad I missed the signing in Vancouver. I grew up with Theo as my favorite player and I had to work and no one would cover

Are you still living the lie of being a Canucks fan?

Out of curiosity, Methanolic, what time did you finally get to see him? We got out just before 6pm, and we started about halfway back.

Great story!

Well last year when he was still running his concrete business, I found his rookie card in my basement. I sent him an email asking if he would sign it so I could donate it to an auction. I was surprised that he called me up the very next morning and told me to drop it off. Well the card ended up selling for close $300 and for a great cause. Can't say enough for a real stand-up guy.

^^^^ That's pretty cool, what charity?

BTW:

Fleury will be having another book signing this Weekend in Airdrie @ Inovative Bed Systems from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

He's also doing another one in Calgary on November 7th at the Costco South @ 1:00 PM.

For what is worth, I think this is an awesome story. I grew up idolizing the guy and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. I met him when I was young at his hockey school when I was like 6 so it doesn't really resonate, the second was when I ran in to him at Cowboys and he was hitting on girls that were my age (18 at the time). Not exactly what you want to see out of your childhood hero.

Long story short I'm glad he's back to being a true inspiration and that you and especially your daughter got to see that.

I can't believe his camera would do that to you two and not him. A real stand up guy.

Question: How does the book signing work?

Theo is coming to Saskatoon, do I buy the book first then go? Or does he sign a copy, give it to me, then I go pay for it? Can you do either or?

Buy the book first.

Just to be safe, I would definitely buy the book a couple of days before the signing. Don't count on just showing up and then buying the book, there may not be any left.

Becareful, some places wont let you bring in outside books. When he was in Airdrie, the only reason I got him to sign two copies we bought at Walmart half an hour earlier, was because between my dad and I, I think we bough 3 on site as well (gifts, etc).

Theo was awesome at the signing tho. Had time to talk to him a bit. Got him to sign a copy to my son, who's almost 2. It's currently in my son's closet. When he's older, it'll give me an oppertunity to talk to him about Theo, and the ups and downs of life.

Someone in the room asked me if I had read it yet, as it's full of inspirational stuff. I said "no, I'm trying to read Bret Hart's book first. Get all the bad stuff out of the way first. I hope your book is a nice light read Theo." Everyone, including Theo, chuckled.
