Default Passport Renewal Question For Trip To The States in October

So thought I'd take to CP with this and excuse my ignorance on the subject and lack of knowledge. Just got offered to join a friend in Vegas at a time share starting November 10th. Just was flipping through my passport and saw it expired this summer. Just going for around 6 days..my question is what is my best plan of action here? Can I get a fast track on getting my passport renewed or what other ways could I use to still go on this trip? Any responses would be greatly appreciated

Edit: Thanks pux!

Mods could you please change the thread title to say November

Update: Just through word of mouth hearing it takes a minimum of 6 weeks to get a new passport. Doing my best to try and find this on a website but struggling

As long as you live in a city with a passport office in Canada this should be no problem.

It's $70 extra for an "urgent" passport (within 24 hrs)

or $30 extra for an "express" passport (2-9 business days)

Check out this link:

EDIT-Just saw that you're in Okotoks (yuck ), so just go to the Harry Hayes building downtown on Monday and apply for either an urgent or express passport.

There is a passport place just north of james mckevitt. It's by the humpty's on the left hand side (if you are going north on mcleod trail).
You should be able to get all the same options at that location as well.

Oh.. and because it expired.. you will have to do a new passport application. I don't think you can do a renewal.

It is possible to get a new passport the same day you apply, if you pay the "urgent" fee. The express service should work fine for you though.

If you think you need to go with the urgent one for the same day, make sure your references will be available to be called that day - because they will be called.

My wife and I thought our passports expired in September, the same month we took a trip to Hawaii 5 years ago. However they expired in July, the month we got them. My wife looked into things (as she just surprised me with a trip to Vegas next week) and your passport can expire and you can renew it after it expires but you have a certain window to do so. I can't remember the time frame but it might be 1 year.

There is a passport office in midnapore that will do the rush passports. They ask when you are traveling though. If you want a bit of a cushion then tell them a few days sooner than you actually leave. Otherwise it might be ready the day before you leave and you would have to pick it up downtown in the afternoon. The midnapore office is open late which is nice (until 7 or 8 on weekdays I think). I went a couple times at 5pm and there was almost no lineup.
