I use the 64 bit on my Macbook pro with boot Camp. it runs great, and the official boot camp support isn't even out yet. Which macbook is it? (Confirm it can run the 64b kernel)

By Duo Core 2 i assume you mean Core 2 Duo

then yes, 64 bit.(especially if you plan upgrading RAM in future)

Well you get to decide how much HD space you want to partition for Boot Camp. If you do not want to partition, rather virtualize, look into software such as Vmware Fusion or Parallels, which runs Windows as a guest host inside Mac OS X.

Myself, took out a 80GB partition on Win 7 64 bit. (I also virtualize it, for classes that need just 1 program - you can run your boot camp partition as a guest host as well)

I'm in the middle of playing around with Parallels. I've been a VM Fusion guy for the last couple years, but now I'm trying out Parallels. I don't really have a verdict quite yet.

As for the 32 vs 64 thing...

To simplify things for you, ask yourself if you're willing to spend money on upgrading to 4GB of RAM. If the answer is yes, and you have access to a 64bit Windows 7 install, then do it. If the answer is no, then stick with 32bit.

The new VMware being released on October 27th crushes Parallels. I own both, and beta'd the new VMware, and am now using the RC for it. Its speed is VERY very good.

Yikes. I downloaded a beta version of VM 3, and it sucked. It was slow and prodding and unusable. I'm hoping I just downloaded an old beta copy or something, because that's what made me start looking at Parallels in the first place.

Also to note, the newest Parallels build does not support DX, so Windows Aero does not function. Word is that it is in the Parallels 5.0 build, which will compete with the features of VmWare 3.0 (Aero capable support)

Just installed 7 Pro in Fusion 2.0.6, and everything works well. No Aero support right now, but that is coming with version 3.0 on the 27th.

As for why I did it, I have some vbscript and powershell work I need to do, and its annoying working remotely via RDP or Citrix. I gave myself a 32 gig virtual C: partition, seems like plenty if MacOS is your primary gig and hold all your documents and whatnot. From what I've experienced so far, 1 gig is enough RAM for acceptable Win7 performance in a VM.

I like having Windows on my computer for a few reasons. I don't mind the OS to be honest. I figure for $52 I'll see what MS has to offer.

Other World Computing has 4 GB memory upgrade for $90. I'll probably do that before I install Windows 7.

When I did the windows student promo for my desktop PC i opted out of the disc, and just did the digital download, didn't know if you knew you could do that

Yeah Windows 7 runs great in Fusion 2.06. I must've just got my hands on a bad beta version of 3. I like the feel of Fusion better than Parallels, so I'll definitely be trying 3.0 out on the 27th.

XP runs perfectly in Fusion. It just reminds me too much of office work that I get bummed out using it.

Ive been using Parallels 5 tonight...and all I gotta say is wait for the RC of this beast before purchasing any new upgrades. It runs smoother then 3.0 RC and its just a beta! :O
