A 25 year old woman in Ashburn, Virginia has come down with a severe debilitating neurological disorder days after receiving a seasonal flu vaccination.
It just seems so ridiculous and strange, I can't tell if it's real and just really rare to get the disorder, or some sort of scam or joke.
The brain is very complex and things can go pretty wacky when it's damaged. There is a great book called The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. He is a neurologist and it chronicles strange brain disorders that he came across during his career. I recall one where a women was unable to use her appendages unless she was looking at them. So if she wanted to walk she had to look at her feet otherwise she would fall down. Same thing with using her arms. And it just randomly hit her one day with no apparent cause. Very rare of course.
I'm not really sure if this is a real disease or not. I bet it is and I doubt she is faking. The real question is not the disease (which is tragic) its whether the flu shot cause it or not. I of course have no idea, and obviously this news station doesn't either (although they not exactly being objective here). Remember correlation does not equal causation.
Drugs cause no disorders whatsoever. Those crazy Jenny McCarthys out there.

They make it quite clear that it is 1 in a million but have no problem treating the news story like "everyone needs to hear it". If it is one in a million why do I give a shart?
That's just too f'd up for me to believe. So, I don't believe it.
And just to pile on FOX, how friggin pathetic. I mean, yeah, she's pretty. Great. I can google pics of hot chicks myself. I don't need you "journalists" adding layers of drama to the story when they are totally irrelevant.
"This was a beautiful bride, just two years ago....." Now, she's all f'd up..." "All because of a flu shot" And here she is again being beautiful" "Now she's a gimp" "all because of a flu shot"
Every time I hear garbage reporting like that, I remember that episode of The Simpsons when Bart became a junior reporter and they satirized how pathetic american news is. Not that Canadian news is much better, mind you.
