So about a week ago my aunty sends me a text asking if I would co-sign for a personal loan of 8300. She just started a new job and her husband has horrible credit so she needs a co-signer. I'm only 23 but I have taken care of my credit and have had a steady job for 4+ years. I asked her what it was for but she didn't really tell me. I trust her not to screw me over but I was a little tentative being that they live paycheque to paycheque and have 3 kids.

Finally after a couple days I say yes thinking that she will tell me what it is for. In my head I'm thinking the loan is for a car or braces for one of the kids or something like that so I'm not worried just as long as the money is spent wisely.

So she sends me the info for the company that she got the loan through and it turns out it is some medical financing company. Immediately bells start going in my head. She is not very blessed in that area of her body and over a game of golf with her husband I remember him saying he wishes he could buy her some boobs. So I'm thinking that is why she won't tell me what the loan is for.

She has already thanked me a thousand times and she is so thankful for me co signing but if I had any inkling at the start it was for something like that I would of refused. Now she is gonna be devastated if I back out now (I still haven't signed anything, just sent my information in) and my wife will kill me I she finds out that I co-signed for boobs, she didn't even want me to co sign when I had no idea it was for a boob job. How do I get myself out of this?

If she wasn't going to be up front with you when you first asked you shouldn't feel guilty for backing out. She put you in an unfair position and clearly gave zero thought as how you might react. Shame on her for doing so!

My advice to you is to tell her you're not going to co sign due to her lack of honesty in the situation.

Another issue is how is she going to pay you back when they are living paycheck to paycheck?

How do you get out? I don't know, but do get out. Don't sign anything.

If you insist on doing it, at least get your name on the deed to their trailer.

You sir, are screwed.

But its not a big deal unless they default, I guess you have to be really sure that they wont default. Otherwise it doesnt really matter what they do with the cash so long as they make their payments.

What I would do is suggest to them that if there is any risk of default or difficulty making payments that they notify you immediately so you can sort it out amongst yourselves.

He didnt loan them any money, he just backed them with a lender.

Clearly you have a big heart for wanting to help out your aunt.

Clearly your aunt doesn't understand the difference between luxuries and necessities.

If she needs her nephew to co-guarantee a loan for her boob-job, she shouldn't get one.

True, but if he co signs he's also responsible for the money owing if they can't pay.

He's a fool if he goes through with this. His wife won't be happy if he does sign. Best to say no.

How sure are you they're for boobs? They could be for penis enlargement for all you know. Ask and make sure before you do anything. Although the fact she never told you why makes it really sketchy.

Have they performed the mystery procedure? I'd call them and see if you can back out. I wouldn't have co-signed for anything for your aunt & uncle.

I could have said something oh so very wrong... but I won't say it.

If you don't find out EXACTLY what it is, don't co-sign for it... if you do find out and don't approve, don't co-sign for it either. I mean, I'd understand if say the $8300 was for treatment of cancer or some sort of disease, I would put it into serious consideration then, but if it's for boob job or penis enlargement... they can go F themselves.
