I just realized this is v3.0. I thought we were still on v2.0.

Edit: and I didn't move out until I was 24. Basically because I was in school still and that allowed me to save some cash. But after living on my own for the past few years, there is no way i could ever go back to living at home.

I had a roommate that fit that description. 25 years old, his first time out of the house. Didn't know how to do laundry. Never ran a vacuum cleaner. I don't think he'd ever cleaned anything. Totally useless.

I just moved out permanently a month ago in my 23rd year for exactly the same reasons. School and then a breathing period to save some cash. Living alone is the way to go.

I moved out when I was 21 (read: thrown out) and I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't let me come back even if I needed it.

Here's a tip for the kids still living at home: If you come home drunk and throw up in your parents washing machine, you will wake up the next day with classified rental ads already circled for you.

I moved out at 18 because I went to university outside of Calgary. I've spent 2 summers back home since, and I found it really difficult to go home. Little things like waking up in silence vs waking up and someone's doing dishes, freedom vs having a fixed schedule of when to eat and when to go to bed and so on.

Downsides are I'm a horrible cook, so its grilled cheese sandwich or a BLT every morning for breakfast, subway or burritos for lunch and pasta or TV dinners for supper every day, and sometimes its nice to have your family around.

20 somethings who have their mothers do their laundry piss me off. My aunt did that for her kids even when they moved to another city.

When I was about 10 my mom showed me how to use the washer and dryer and the stove and the fridge. Basically told me that from then on, if I wanted clean clothes, that's where I'd get them. Breakfast and lunch were my own responsibility. If I wanted mac&cheese, make it myself.
At the time I thought she was a bit of a bitch, but in retrospect, I'm glad. I'd hate to be one of those helpless losers that needs his mom or his wife to do everything for him.
I've got a buddy that can't iron. Or says he can't. I don't know what's so difficult or intimidating about an iron. If you don't like ironing, don't buy shirts that require it. But it's impossible to "not know how to iron". When he says that, what he really means is "I'm too lazy to do it, so I'll make my g/f do it for me".

My mom does my laundry sometimes, but not because I want her to.

I like to do my own because I have a very specific method. ALways cold water, nothing but socks and boxers in the dryer. Everything gets hanged up and organized in my closet and gets air dried.

I think she does it because there is so little she does for me anymore that is still "motherly" so doing my laundry makes her feel needed again.

I'm starting to think I don't know how to do laundary... dump the clothes in, put in however much soap the container says, turn it on right? I don't know the diff between hot water vs cold water... then throw it in the dryer, turn it on. Whats the difficulty?

I wish my mom would come over and do my laundry and cleaning sometimes. The most she does for me is ironing my huge ass curtains that hang by my balcony door. If I had my way I would throw them in the dryer and call it a day.

Laundry is easy and very little work.

Folding your clothes afterwards, that's another story..

1. I still live at home, so I guess I'm sad.
2. I do my own laundry, thank you very much.
3. I like to have some disposable income around, and therefore cannot afford to move out. Unless I want to turn into that guy who eats mac & cheese every night and stay in and do nothing on the weekends.

I moved out when I was 19. I value independence more than cash.

I'll freely admit that I can't iron worth a damn. I've tried it and it didn't seem to make a difference. But most stuff doesn't need to ironed anyway. Especially when your dress shirts are non-iron.

I had ironing flogged into me from a young age, now I actually find it kind of relaxing. I probably even have the upper hand on my girlfriend, which just means she can manipulate me into ironing some of her stuff. The life of a simple male...

My mom also taught me how to do my own laundry and cook and take care of myself. I left home at 18 to go to school and my parents and I have a great relationship because of it I think.

I wish my parents still did my laundry and cooking but I'd never move back home to get that.

The day after I graduated H.S. I was out of the folks home, moved to a foreign country and have had my own place since.
I did spend one summer a couple years back living with my mom, but I still had my own place in a different city.

I think there are certain situations that make living with the folks ok. One is being a student. I will always tell a young kid to go to a different city for school and live in the dorms first year, but if you really want to save money, staying in town and living with the folks is fine.

Yeah, I agree. I did most of my cooking, minus dinners, and all of my laundry all through university. Even 5 years after the fact, I still lament making my own dinner, although I am not an awful cook, you begin to realize that having a mom is like having a personal nutrition specialist that you don't have to pay.

Still, I totally agree. The more independence your parents teach you, the better your relationship with them and your family will be in your life.

I'm thinking of dropping a class that I'm not failing. I haven't had to submit anything to be graded yet, and know if I worked at this class I would pass with a decent grade.
I'm just not feeling the class. It is once a week for 3-4hrs. Boring class, boring material.
