If someone honks their horn at me, it's always because I'm doing something that's messing up the flow of traffic or something, and I'll correct it. I take no offense to it whatsoever. I remember coming home on Deerfoot one day, I did a shoulder check, and still somehow missed this one car that was next to me. I started going over, he honked his horn, I quickly went back over into my lane, and the gave me the finger as he was going by. It didn't bother me one bit, though now I always make sure to do two, sometimes three quick shoulder checks before switching lanes.

I don't piss drivers off intentionally, so if I've somehow maybe pissed you off, my apologies.

I despise the "if i don't make eye contact with you or your vehicle, you don't exist" people. The one's that do whatever the heck they want and feel that if they stare straight ahead and ignore everything around them that the responsibility for their and your safety falls solely on your shoulders.

So if I come out with a door ding on the side of my car can I do the courtesy of kicking a dent into the side of your car?

Sorry for the spelling error it was late...

I hate the Calgary Creep. No, not Phaneuf. The Calgary Creep. It's where people who can't drive have to stop 40 feet behind the car in front of them, sit there for ten seconds, then creep up to where they should have stopped in the first place, inching along, dragging their brakes. It doesn't really add any time to the commute, but it's annoying as hell. If you can't actually stop a car where you want to, maybe you shouldn't be driving? Just a thought. Oh yeah, I hate Phaneuf too.
Words cannot even describe how much I hate this. The only thing worse is the drivers that creep, then stop way short, then creep some more, then stop short again, rinse and repeat until they've driven everyone nuts.

I also hate the "passing lane Indy 500" where people poke along at 90 in the mountains then gun it the second they hit a passing lane so people trying to pass their slow ass have to get up to warp speed to get past them, then they go right back to 90. Often accompanied by a confused look as you glare at them when you finally get by them. Drives me insane. Yes BC drivers I'm pointing the finger at you, for whatever reason in my experience you are the worst for this.

Argh! That drives me crazy! It also happens in the city all the time - wherever a road gets wider. One that comes to mind is 14th street south, down by 90th ave where a third lane opens. I'll be stuck behind two sumbitches going the same speed, then as soon as the lane opens up, one of them locates his gas pedal and tries to keep pace with me as I blast by in the third lane.
I don't understand why people get offended by people that want to go faster than them.

Another thing that kills me is when two lanes merge into one and the people in the dominant lane try to be tough and keep you out, as though you're doing something wrong by using a lane to the end of it. The three places I can think of are 14th street (god I use that road alot, both north and south) after anderson, 33rd ave EB just past 37th st, and Elbow drive onto that road that goes to Stanley Park.
Why do people get so douchy at these spots? Like you're pissed that I have the brains to use the second lane to get more traffic through the light?
Last time I went through the elbow drive one, some dickface tried to force me behind him. He was unsuccessful. Nice try, White Highlander. And thanks for flipping me the bird behind me. Not sure why you were pissed, we were alternating vehicles as two lanes merged and you decided that I needed to go behind you, even though the natural logical flow put me in front of you.

That's more or less a Calgary phenomenon. What really burns me up about it are the morons in the non-dominant lane who stop or try to eke in and hold up everyone behind them. Just go to the end of the lane and move in. It's the easiest driving manoeuvre to do.

After coming back from Cambodia I'm 100% thankful for everything about North American roads. Everything in this thread are such minor inconveniences by comparison to the craziness I saw over there.

Red Deer

Nothing more annoying than waiting at the red light long after the pedestrian has completed crossing.

I have found that since I upgraded from a Mazda Precidia to a Dodge Ram people let me in a lot more often when I am merging and I have way less problems getting people to move out of my way.

What is the point of honking the horn when somebody is doing something wrong? They either don't care what you think or they don't know any better. So it is in my mind pointless.
I am having a difficult time grasping this. The point of honking when someone is doing something wrong because THAT IS WHAT THE HORN IS FOR...

If they don't know any better the horn helps them learn.

i.e. the people who stop going from westbound Crowchild onto northbound nosehill dr. I honk until they move, and eventually they move so it works.

You really are a special one.

I hope it all ends for you in a fiery wreck after you attempted to single land pass a semi on the highway but could only go 110.

$200 for a laptop and $50 for a speaker and I can have you hooked up in about an hour.

This is one of the best laws here in Queensland. The curb lane that is merging in has the right of way - if they are beside you, you have to slow down and let them in. If you are merging in and some ######tongue tries to cockblock you and you hit him, it's his fault. Nobody does though, and traffic flows much better - you never have the 'one stopped lane, one lane zipping along' phenomenon.

In Washington State, if you are driving so slow on the highway, that 5 or more cars are trapped behind you, you have to pull over.

As for the post I quoted last, the answer to your question of "why do you honk when someone's doing something wrong?" is that it's illegal to get out of my truck and bounce the loser's face off his steering wheel. So I settle for honking.

Turning left over a double solid is one of the highest forms of d-baggery. I don't really mind if you do it on a non-busy road, but seriously, if you do it on 14th st, I want to murder you. If you're going south on 14th, you're not allowed to stop and flip on your signal light to turn in to the Husky. Illegal. You're destroying traffic. I will plaster my hand on my horn until you get all flustered and abort your attempt at turning. Seriously. I take it THAT seriously. I hate you and I want you to either
1. Take Driver Training
2. Die
LOL! I agree.

Another that pisses me off are the lazy pricks who park in the fire lanes at Supersotre/Safeway...etc. I believe a Calgarypucker posted on here that their father pulls up behind these people and lays on the horn until they move. I wish I had the cojones to do that.

I saw a car like this the other day. One of those new Nissan Cubes. It was keyed on both sides. I'll bet he was one of those ahole parkers.

People with nice vehicles: if you want to make sure your car won't be damaged, park next to a similarly nice vehicle.

Here's the law I'm perfectly willing to break. I look at handicapped stalls as reserved for handicapped people unless all other spots are full. I've only actually parked in one once - the KFC on 17th ave (the nice 17th ave lol). Like I said, every spot was full so I took the handicapped spot and didn't feel at all bad about it.

Flame away, ladies.
