I like it when they do this. It means they understand that the lane ends.
Trust me, I've seen people go straight through.

Yes but the cars stopped on the opposite side of the intersection may not know the lane ends and if they can't see the front of your car's left or right turn signal it can cause an issue (can't remember the situation but I came across one). However I am guilty of turning my signal on when I start turning.

edit: and yeah some of the cities older fire trucks are super loud while in the cab, some firefighters do wear the muff's while in transport to a call, i am not 100% sure but I think inside the truck it's over the OHSA standards of 85 dbs or whatever the technical regulations are

My pet peeves
- People slow way down for a green light just in case it might turn
- People who change lanes over solid lines or even double lines
- People that drive in the left lane and will not move over to let someone going faster pass. Seriously, why is it such a big deal? If you don't like that they're going so fast, why wouldn't you let them by so they are anywhere on the road but where you are?
- People that don't know how to merge or yield
- People that have tons of time to turn, yet wait until you are right there and then pull out right in front of you
- People that HAVE to get in front of you to then drive 10-20km under the speed limit
- People that drive under the speed limit in the left hand lane on the highway because they have to turn left in about 20kms
- People that don't wave thank you or wave back when you wave, it's just common courtesy.
- And of course, people that don't pay attention to anything going on around them because they are either talking on the phone or texting
I could go on and on, but I'll go with that for now

The only one of these I ever saw had lights and controlled arrows and from memory only the right lane could turn right whereas the middle and left lanes could turn left. It was in Dallas I think. I doubt you would see one with just stop signs.

|
I HATE it when people honk their horn just because they can. Drives me nuts. If somebody is behind me and they honk the horn I will slow down or stay stopped until I decide that it is time to move.
What is the point of honking the horn when somebody is doing something wrong? They either don't care what you think or they don't know any better. So it is in my mind pointless.
Honking the horn should be used to get people's attention under certain circumstances. Like the time the person was honking his horn because he was sliding on the ice through the intersection. Most people started to give him the eff you look until they realized what was happening. One woman was not even paying attention. As I grabbed her and pulled her out of the intersection she had this look of fear as she realized what happened. She just stood there for awhile as we started to walk when it was safe.
So excessive honking of car horns has made them useless for their intended use. Kinda like the car alarm. When a car alarm goes off what do people do? I would say most just ignore it.

Why do some people take getting passed as some sort of personal attack? And then feel the need to speed past you and then slow down?

I only do that if some ahole cuts me off in a less than safe manner. If it is just some guy going faster than me I could care less if he passes.

Generally, I have a lot of driving complaints...
But this is the most common driving law that I find not followed:

I just ride someones ass until they move over. If you don't know how to drive I'm going to make you uncomfortable until you get the fata out of my way!

I used to use this method untill I rear ended a Transit bus and my insurance rates flew from 120 dollars a month to 500 a month.

I hate people that take driving mistakes personally ("OMG what they did was sooooo dangerous! I could have been hit!"), then use dangerous driving to prove a point ("I'm going to ride their ass, then zoom by them and finger them while pretending to run them off the road!")

Yes in the ideal world people would use two lanes and merge at the last second but guess what? We dont live in a ideal world. I'm actually happy we dont because it leaves the merge road empty for me to cut off atleast 75 cars.
I posted the picture because i thought it was funny not because i agreed with it. I posted it earlier too in the funny picture thread.

Well, to your first point- people take dangerous driving personally because.... well... I often do take it personally when somebody tries to kill me or my loved ones.
I'm not saying it justifies the road rage in return, but I understand why people get upset.

It's frustrating for sure but sometimes you have to take a deep breath, relax and realize that some drivers are very nervous driving on city streets. Some are old and nervous, some drivers just moved here from small towns where they never seen so many lanes and vehicles and some are just new drivers.
They estimate that 20% of accidents in Calgary come from impatient drivers...there's nothing wrong with starting your commute 5 minutes early and taking your time.

I live in Victoria you don't have to tell me about bad drivers, the old and nervous.
Going from Victoria to Calgary was not a scary transition and if someone is that nervous they should not be operating a 2,000lb vehicle with myself, family and friends out there. If you are going to operate a piece of machinery that can travel hundreds of KPH, and would kill anything in it's path you should be confident you know what you are doing behind that wheel. Just my opinion.
Everyone is the world wouldn't have to leave 5-15 minutes early to get somewhere if people took the time to learn the rules of the road instead of just assuming because you know how to turn a blinker on doesn't mean you know how to drive.
Does stupidity account for the other 80%?
