It's symbolic, rejecting the food is akin to rejecting their hospitality. You are looking at things from the wrong level - it's not about forcing you to eat something you dislike, it's about forging a social bond.

That being said, one of the worst nights of my life was eating some kind of vegetarian quiche at one ex-gf's house. I loathe onions, and it was probably 50% onion and very strong tasting. I managed to eat a decent helping, but I ordered an all-meat pizza a week or so later when we went out, and when she suggested we split it and add onions, I thoughtlessly said "I can't stand onions!" and it all went downhill from there.

Yeah and all my burgers are plain. I like lettuce, cheese, shrooms, bacon. But nothing else. Anytime I go to a fast food joint or a restaurant I get ask for it with just lettuce.

Most people that know me, know that I'm ridiculously picky. I've had a few awkward moments at friends/girlfriends houses for supper. Usually I tell them in advance that it isn't that I hate the cook, I just have very specific tastes.

No liver, kidney, heart, brains, any other disgusting organ meats. I have no idea what the draw is for some people to eat these things. My ex sister in law served a beef heart once, like a roast, it was the most disgusting thing I've ever even looked at let alone tasted.

No kidding, if the function of that organ is to filter out toxins and other junk in the body I'm not so sure that it would be wise to eat it. I'm looking at you liver and kidneys.

A lot of cultures started eating these things for a reason. Most of the time it is not a choice. Often times, food (especially meat) wasn't in abundance, and people often wasted nothing by cooking and eating everything. This is especially true for my parents when they were growing up. Meat such as beef, fish, and chicken were very hard to come by. And if you ate that all your life, this essentially becomes comfort food for you.

Majority of the 'products' in the supermarket.

Too bad I can't actually do that.

Wouldn't be so bad if it were food in the first place.

I certainly understand your point. I just don't enjoy eating such things, but if that's someone else's idea of comfort food, that's certainly your perogative.

Squash, mushrooms, any kind of beans, beet greens. Tapioca pudding makes me gag, as does porridge. Funny thing about the last one, I had it for the first time in years the other morning and couldn't remember why I stopped eating it...then I had a bite and instantly flashed back to throwing up after eating porridge when I was a little kid.

Green peppers are hit and miss. I don't mind them in general, but I find that they're all I can ever taste if I have them in a sandwich or a stirfry.

Oh, as for specific meals I loathe potato scollop, macaroni & hamburger casserole (my grandmother used to call it "slouvy"..really attractive name), and probably a couple others I can't remember. I have been a notoriously picky eater my whole life, but have tried to change that a bit the last few months.

Don't do yogurt at all, and Shark Fin. I'd spit it out if I found out I had been served it.

other than that, there isn't anything I won't at least try.

Shell fish and mayonnaise are two that come to mind.

Blasphemy! Cabbage rolls are delicious! Not the ones with meat and tomato sauce though, just plain cabbage and rice.

I'm not down with liver. That's about it. Everything is worth trying once...unless it's heart or brain or something like that. That's just freaky.

Oh and the traditional Slovak New Years soup (can't remember the name) is god awful. I like sauerkraut, and I enjoy sausages, but put them in a pot and boiling them together is just a horrible, horrible idea.

Artichokes, olives, beans and peppers are verbotten in my mouth . . . . and that's from a guy who will eat Sushi from 7-11.
