Laws do change from province to province so keep that in mind.

For example in Ontario the double yellow "no passing" lines on a highway are technically only a suggestion. It isn't illegal to ignore them. Not sure if all provinces are that way or just them though.

Wow, I had no idea. So all someone needs to do is start walking from an intersection and traffic has to stop? This is not a good rule.

Ontario is also the province that invented the "advance green" turning light signal. Which gets interesting when they move to Vancouver where a blinking green light means something entirely different.

Good one. This drives me nuts. Whenever I walk my dog I need to navigate across the street a few times (not at crosswalks). Almost everytime a car stops for me ... I've started turning my back to traffic so people think I'm not crossing.

That confuses the bejesus out of me. I was in Ottawa and BC when trying to learn to drive and it was almost cruel.

Doesn't ontario have solid green flashing lights that mean advance green and in Vancouver it just means regular green?

In Alberta of course, we always have a flashing arrow to represent advance green.

Cars are not restricted to public roads.

In Vancouver, pedestrian lights are usually not the flashing yellow lights we're used to here, they're usually regular traffic signals that flash green when not in use and turn red after a pedestrian presses a button. I've seen this elsewhere too, but can't remember where (Seattle?)

Since I'm not in the same room as you, can you do me a favour and punch yourself in the face?

Fine. Cars licensed for use on public roads should be restricted to a top speed of 110 then.

Meh, I should still be able to take my vehicle to a race track if I please.

Also, if I get clipped by a gunshot in a drive-by (at an Asian restaurant of course) I sure as poop don't want my savior driving me to the hospital to have a government issued governor.

Although I do generally agree with you, I would support a mandatory decrease of horsepower in motor vehicles.

You should also look at it from an environmental standpoint. Fuel consumption increases dramatically after about 55 miles per hour.

This is correct. If there is no crosswalk, there will be a sign that says so.

Or you weren't really paying attention.

That is hilarious you were honking at people and cutting them off. Priceless!

You know what I love about these driving threads? The fact that it shows that 100% of people believe they are a perfect driver, and 100% of people believe that everyone else sucks. But if all the claims and debates in this thread are any indication, maybe we aren't all as perfect as we think.

It's funny, when it comes to most things in life you will hear a lot of honestly and humility. aka "i'm a decent hockey player", "I'm kind of shaky at guitar, but I'm getting better", "Man I suck at snowboarding"

But you almost never hear people say "Yeah, I'm not bad at driving, but I seem to make mistakes sometimes", or "I'm a decent driver, but I find myself getting honked at because I don't know some of the small rules of the road"

All you ever hear is "Man there are so many bad drivers in this city", "I f-in hate it when drivers do so and such, how are they so stupid?". But if this thread is any indication, some of those same people that make the "How are people so stupid that they would...." are also the people that get into debates and then find out that they are in fact in the wrong sometimes as well.
