Based on the dimensions they gave, the balloon would have been close to 1570 cubic feet, which would be enough to lift 81 pounds. I have to think that the balloon plus a 6 year old would probably weight at least that much. Even if not, it would have been close enough that it would have taken off slowly and the kid would have had plenty of time to jump out. It sounds to me like the kid was never in there.

I'm assuming this "box" was probably for recording instruments of some kind, The fact that this "box" can not be located in the nearby area of where the balloon first took off, makes me think this story is going to have (unfortunately) a horrific ending.
There's some footage from Wife Swap of this family on YouTube. The armchair psychiatrist in me can't help but wonder if the father has bipolar disorder. I really hope it is just a hoax.
Shouldnt be long now. They should be able to find the spot at which they started taping, and search from there back to the house. Hopefully it wasnt too high IF the box detached.
I can't help but think that the more the story changes, the more BS gets added. First the child was in the balloon, now the child was in a box attached from the balloon...
Please, if this is a '15 minutes of fame' kinda deal, let it be 14:59 by now.

Sherrifs deputy saying he saw something fall from the balloon. CNN has just shown the photo with an object (what t@t referred to) visible half way between the balloon and the ground, the balloon looked to be about 1000 ft in the air.
