Habs and Preds hook up in deal
The Montreal Canadiens have made a surprise move today moving Kris Russell and a 3rd Rounder in 2010 for Jake Gardiner.
Russell is already established as a d-man on Columbus and has a lot of potential. The fact is though we wanted Gardiner for about a year and a half now and you have to pay to get a player you like. Thanks Slava for finally giving in, I don't know if I could have waited much longer...
The Habs were in a position to make this move due to the fact that we have 8 CPHL d-men already and some good AHL'ers so Russell was somewhat expendable.
Good luck to Russell in Nashville, and welcome Jake to Montreal!

Basically he ground me down and I finally gave in. Russell is rated and still has loads of potential. If we can't do anything in the CPHL maybe we can still challenge for the AHL crown I suppose!

I don't get it...Russell appears to be the best player in this deal and you tossed in a 3rd to get a college kid?

Slava didn't want to move Gardiner at all, so in those cases you have to make it worth the GM's while to get them to move that player.

Not sure if this was supposed to be green text but Gardiner is a stud and will be very good in the NHL. simmer has the pieces that he can wait for Gardiner to graduate.

Of course you don't. That explains why no one wants to trade with you anymore

I haven't looked ahead in the schedule, but I am definitely looking forward to the St. Louis Vs. Philadelphia games this season. Should be some interesting commentary when those come up!

We need a poll for what is the CPHL's best GM rivalry. Flyers and Blues seem to have a good one....Everyone else is pretty bland. I guess the old backup goalie tried to call out the little Mexican one day, only to embarass himself and kill that one.

I think you are the little Mexican Grant, then Axel was the old goalie who called you out and lost bad. It was preseason though so not that great.
I don't call out guys cuz the Ducks are destined to lose!

We need more rivalry in general, but these things need to develop on their own...you can't force these things.
Its pretty clear that the best is the Flyers/Blues right now though. I can't even think of another that is out there?

I'm not a fan of simmer's "principals" and vice versa so we have had couple jabs at each other.
Nucks and Thrashers had the seed planted both went defensive instead of offensive so that died out.

Well I've had a few little things here and there with a couple of GMs...but nothing that went any further. I kind of wish there was a GM who I had a real dislike for to create some kind of rivalry with or something like that.
I would say the closest was this summer on a deal with the Thrashers...but that was ancient history a few days later and other than him being an Oilers fan I don't have anything to hold against him! Although it will be awesome to beat him today!
